Hey!There

CIVIL ENGINEERING is an evergreen core stream,it still has great scope in government sector undertaking companies. If you are looking for PSUs,ESE and other goverment sector undertaking examination then you have great opportunities as CIVIL ENGINEERING has maximum vacancies in government sector.Very few companies used to visit for recruitment of civil engineering graduates, you can say it's demand is less in private sector undertaking companies.Focus on branch papers and don't think about scope and placement. There is always an option.

I hope this helps..

Hi Pranay!

There are good career option of civil engineer after b.Tech. Here are career options:

  1. GATE : M.Tech in Transportation Engineering, M.Tech in Structural Engineering, M.Tech in Water Resource Engineering, M.Tech in Geo-Technical engineering, M.Tech in Environmental Engineering.
  2. IES :  Indian Engineering Services. You are now eligible to apply.
  3. PSU : If you are technically strong, you can apply for PSU's. Nowadays they are mainly dependent on GATE score. So, prepare hard for GATE. Give your best shot. Some Government departments like Department of Atomic energy etc conduct their own exams for recruitment. Follow their advertisements.
  4. State Government Jobs: Comparatively easy to crack.

You are even eligible for Bank Jobs in India. (Bank PO's).

  5. Jobs : Construction giants like L & T, Tata Projects, SPCL, HCC etc. : Attend their interviews. Go to their respective websites, search for CAREERS option, speak to HR persons or mail them your resume. If luck favours you, you might get a call for attending their interviews.

Hope this helps.

All the best!

Hi Pranay

Scope of Civil Engineering is quite good in India. ‘Quite good’ doesn’t mean less than any of the other branches like CSE,IT,Mech. Civil Engineering a very vast field, very diversified. New innovations are taking place every coming days.

Its up to you, how you take this. Only the condition is you should have a sound knowledge of civil engineering basics and concepts as well their practical application.

After your B.Tech you will be having many options which you can opt for-

(i) Crack GATE examination for applying for the various public sector units (PSU’s) through GATE. such as NHAI,NBCC, NHPC,IOCL,HPCL,ONGC etc

(ii) You can prepare for Indian Engineering Services/State Engineering Services for vaious govt. jobs in CPWD,Indian Railway Services, IRSS, MES,CWC etc

(iii) You may have the chances to be placed through your campus placement interviews. If companies coming to your institutions are not enough , then you can apply for offcampus to various companies.

(iv) Various state governmental organisations notifies vacancies for various departments for civil engineers from their own examination procedures. Govt organisations such as Housing Board etc

(v) You can become a IAS/IFS officer with civil engineering as an optional subject with your perseverance and smart work.

All the best!

Hello

In terms of packages civil will always lag behind IT and Computer Science. But in terms of job satisfaction civil is a good option. In future the your salary will depends on your exposure and type of projects. Most people go higher education like MS, MBA or civil engineering services . Other note worthy prospective can be Public service undertaking.
