see cutoff score based on certain category like number of applicants, questions difficulty level, students category, choice of stream etc. however you did not mention which of the category you belongs to. if this rank mentioned in the question is general category then less chances of selection in cse IT. however for private college like bp poddar institute of technology you have decent chances.

Congratulations for result. You haven't mentioned uf your son belongs to any reserved category or not. So considering him as a general category student, based on his rank, it might be difficult to get Techno India Salt Lake cause last years' closing rank for CSE lies around 5100 rank and For Information Technology it is somewhat around 6900. The closing rank for CSE in Government College of Engineering and Ceramic Technology was around 5200 rank and for Information Technology it was around 7600. Now if the cutoffs change, you may get IT there. The closing rank for CSE in Government College of Engineering and Leather Technology was around 4600 rank and for Information Technology it was around 7200.
Now coming to BP Poddar Institute of Engineering and Management, you have good chance there to get CSE or IT as the closing ranks lies around 15000 and 23000 respectively.
