Hello Sannita,

While talking about only getting into NIT, I'm not considering any specific branch or any specific NIT.

Cutoffs of different NIT's are different according to their respective ranks.

So if your rank is approx 35,000 in general category you may get average branch in low level of NIT.

Here's a list below that's showing upto which rank (in their respective category) can someone get a seat in NIT.

GENRAL : Upto 35,000 (easily) [41,000 (last round) ]

OBC Category : Upto 12,000 (OBC rank)

SC :7,000 ( SC rank)

ST : 3,500 ( ST rank)

Above info. is for other state category.

But if you are from a state whose NIT is not a top or middle level NIT, you can get into NIT even if your rank is above 35k.

e.g. J&k, on applying HS (Home state) quota you can get a average branch in NIT Srinagar even if you rank is 41,000 (general).

I hope it helps!!!

Hello,

The answer to this question is not absolute . It depends on a number of factors.

Normally, the cutoff score for qualifying for JEE Advanced is around 100/360 ( for general category students) and around 2 lakh students qualify . So,roughly speaking,a score of 100 gives you a rank of about 2 lakh.

It also depends on how high you are aiming. If you want to go for NITs situated in the north east,a score of about 130140 will be enough but if you are eyeing top NITs like NIT Trichy, you better rock the show and get 270+.Also,the cutoffs for IISc are insane, and usually about 290+.

One more thing, there is a home state quota for the students of the particular state.Due to this reservation of seats,a student of home state has better prospects of getting a seat than an outsider.

Here's the estimated list of cut offs(rank) of few prestigious NITs :

RANK IS GIVEN ACCORDING TO GENERAL RANK, NOT THE CATEGORY RANK.

NIT WARANAL:

1000-7000(gen)

2200-10000(obc)

NIT TRICHY:

500-5000(gen)

750-7500(obc)

NIT SURATHKAL:

300-5000(gen)

600-8000(obc)

NIT JAIPUR :

1200-8000(gen)

2200-12000

NIT ALLAHABAD :

500-10000(gen)

1200-14000(obc)

This is the opening and closing rank but yeah if you've secured a better rank you can certainly go to your desired campus

Hope it helps.
