This section test a candidate's understanding and knowledge of English Language. Questions are asked from spotting the error, fill in the blanks, synonyms, antonyms, spelling/ detecting misspelled words, idioms & phrases, one word substitution, improvement of sentences, active/ passive voice of verbs, conversion into direct/ indirect narration, shuffling of sentence parts, shuffling of sentences in a passage, cloze passage & comprehension passage. For vocabulary candidates should learn new words, memorise the spellings and look for their synonym and antonym. For Grammar, prepare  a table of tenses and their rules, active and passive, direct and indirect and other important grammar topics. Candidates must have a hold on Grammar to solve questions like cloze test, error spotting, fill in the blanks. Apart from practice, they must read newspaper, magazines etc. Practice narration and voice in this section.

Here are  some preparation tips for preparing English for SSC you can prefer given below:

Firstly go through well with previous year papers you can easily understand what kind of question SSC is framing.

English Section in SSC CGL Tier I judges your ability to understand English and Proper Usage of Grammar. For improvement on understanding English, read Newspapers like The Hindu and Economic Times and Books on Grammar.

You need to develop a habit to learn new words daily from the newspaper, news channels, books etc.

It is very important to know your weak areas so that you can pay your special attention to them. Give more time to the study of the subject or topic that you are having difficulty with.

Maintain a plan for each day to practice topics essential to SSC CGL English Language Section and try to devote at least three hours for English exercise on daily basis.

As you all know, Time Management is the important factor of every competitive examination. Therefore, you need to work on your speed. For solving questions at a faster pace, you have to test yourself on a daily basis by practice Mock Test and Assessments.
