Hello Vijay,
Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions or TNEA in short, is a department of Anna University that looks after admissions to B.E & B.Tech courses in engineering colleges all over the state. All colleges which are under Anna University admit students based on their PCM scores in 12th standard board examination. Unlike most other states, there is NO separate entrance test in Tamil Nadu. The entire process is pretty straight forward and it is explained in brief:
You need to obtain a minimum of 50% marks in each Physics, Chemistry & Maths. For Marine engineering, however, you need 60% marks in these 3 subject plus 50% in English.
Once the results are out, you need to fill the application form either online at www.annauniv.edu/tnea2015Make sure you keep all your marksheets and a demand draft (DD) of Rs. 500/- handy at the time of filling the application form.
If you have filled the online form, you'll have to take a print out of the completed form. Submit the printout/physical form along with a DD for Rs. 500/- at one of the above specified centers.
Once all the applications are received, TNEA will publish a rank list on its website based on PCM marks out of 200. For this, they convert marks in Mathematics out of 100 and combined marks in Physics & Chemistry out of 100.
In case of a tie, i.e more than one candidate have same PCM marks, following criteria decides the rank:
(1) Percentage of mark in Mathematics, (2) Percentage of mark in Physics, (3) Percentage of mark in the Fourth optional subject, (4) Date of Birth (elder will be given preference) & (5) Random number assigned (higher value will be given preference).
Schedule & venue for the counselling will be notified in advance. You will be called for counselling according to your merit rank, where you will have to decide the college and stream of your preference from the available options.
Once you've got your desired college, you will need to pay Rs. 5,000/- to reserve the seat. You'll also be required to get all your original documents verified before the admissions.
If you have submitted your original certificates/documents in an Institution then you need to get a bonafied letter from Heat of Institution to that effect.
