Diploma holders shall have to undergo a 1 year pre-sea course in any dg approved institutes. They have to complete a minimum sailing of 18 months on a vessel above 500GRT which is mandatory and then approach for their written and oral exams to become Nautical Officer.
However, On Contrary, Bsc students shalll undergo 3 years in any of the DG approved institute and have to complete a minimum of 12 months sailing on a vessel above 500GRT. Only Then they will give the written and oral exams for second mates.
Adding on after the completion of the 3 year degree sfudents shall get a convocation certificate so they can pursue any other course if they wish so.
Hence, Bsc Nautical Scienec is best option in this case.

But , DNS candidates have better practical knowledge and BSc.Nautical Science candidates have a kind of "BOOKISH" knowledge . so DNS is the best option and DNS Candidates earn earlier and DNS fees is low as compared to the BSc.NS Candidates.BSC.NAUTICAL SCIENCE = 3 yrs shore training and 12 months minimum sea service as a deck cadet.and.12-14 lakhs fees.DNS = 1yr shore training and 18 months sea service as a deck cadet and 4-6 lakhs fees.and stipend of Rs.25k-40k as a deck cadetSo Overall in less time we earn and with less college fees.So the DNS is the best option.
