Hi Ashutosh,
There are several good B-Schools in India other than the IIMs. These accept scores of other examinations as well other than CAT. So the next best option is to give a try at XAT or MAT since it happens after the CAT exam is over. If you have perfromed well in SNAP, NMAT, MAT, CMAT, IIFT entrance exam etc then you should probably expect a call from those institutes and prepared for interviews. Even if you get just one call from a top b School be prepared to crack it.
The colleges accepting above exams are:
CAT - All IIMs and almost all B-Schools in India
MAT, CMAT - Many tier 2 and tier 3 B-Schools
XAT - All Xaviers institutes and some more private B SChools Like IMI, IMT etc
SNAP - All symbiosis institutes and some more private B SChools
NMAT - NMIMS, IBS and some more private institutes
IBSAT - All IBS colleges
IIFT exam - IIFT Delhi, Kolkata
For knowing more about colleges accepting a specific exam's score you can google it out.
All the best
The best option for you will be what you believe should be.Doing MBA from IIMs and other to colleges like XLRI and FMS is highly beneficial as it can give you everything from jobs in top MNCs to average salary of 15 lakhs p.a.So, i believe you should give your level best to get into these top colleges to persue MBA.
On the other hand if we talk about private colleges for MBA then i must say that jobs in Private colleges are nowhere near the level of jobs that IIMs provide so keep that in mind. You will end up getting in good companies but your salary will not be that much good and also you will have to work very hard in years to come to achieve a good position in the organisation.
In my opinion if you this is something you really want to do then if you not get a call from iim you should drop.Or else you should talk to your parents abouts whats next like if you are financially strong then it wont bother much but if not then you should talk to your parents.
I hope this helps.
Goodluck
