What is nautical science..what is the scope for that..
Hello dear
After getting a Bsc Nautical Science Degree you have to
1.Complete a 12 months onboard training on merchant ship. There are various types of ships depending upon size, trading areas etc which are concerned on counting your seatime on that vessel ( check dgshipping training notices for their rule about sea time calculation).
2. Now that you have finished your seatime to be eligible for 2nd mates exam you have to do few courses namely, ROC,ARPA,MFA,ECIDS,GMDSS,AFF,PSCRB. These will cost you maximum ₹70,000 in Delhi, in other parts of country these are much cheaper and time to complete these will be about 3–4 months.
3. As you have succesfully completed your seatime and the courses you are eligible for 2nd mates exam. For 2nd mate exams we have Written Papers and Orals. Since you are a BSc Nautical Science so you are exempted from Writtens and hence can directly appear for Orals in nearby MMD Offcie. You have to apply for assesment. And have to clear Signal (Morse Code) Exam.
4.Once your assesment is approved you will be called for oral exams depending upon the waiting period for exams in that office. You will be tested on 3 subjects. On succesfully clearing them you will be getting your COC in few months and you are eligible to be 2nd Mate of a merchant vessel.
5.Same process is repeated like seatime, courses, examination to go up in higher hierarchy to become Cheif Officer and the Captain of a ship.
