Established in 1960, NIT Durgapur is among the most reputed institutes of technology in India. Every year, it attracts the attention of thousands of students from around the country. The college has a strong relationship with various prestigious companies in the industry, that creates more job opportunities for its students.
The placement percentage for Mechanical branch students at NIT Durgapur is 62.88%. The batch of 2018 got average salary package varying from 5.5 LPA - 6 LPA. The lowest salary package offered was of 3.5 LPA and the highest maximum of 32 LPA. More than 80% of the students got placed from the college. In Mechanical Engineering, top recruiters were L&T, Hero Motocorp, Bajaj Auto, Tata Motors, Vedanta and also some PSUs like IOCL, BPCL, etc. Almost all students were offered roles of graduate engineer trainees in core branches.
Core companies like L&T, Vedanta Steel, JSW Steel, Sterling Wilson, Reliance Naval, Diamlers, Tata Motors, Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki, Bajaj, Hero, Reliance Industries (manufacturing sector), etc., visit the campus in alternate years. The salary package offered ranges from 6 LPA - 10 LPA. Steel companies pay a little more. Top companies like Thermax offer salary package as 13 LPA. Apart from that, some PSUs visit the campus once in every alternate year. PSUs like Indian Oil, Hindustan Petroleum (one at a time) or other oil companies offer high salary packages varying from 14 LPA - 17 LPA or even more. In the non-core sectors, MNCs have seats open to all departments. There is also a PWC which offers salary package of 9 LPA - 10 LPA or even more depending on postings. Apart from these, there are companies like Aditya Birla, TCE and some mass recruiters. Coming to internships they have MoU with CERN so every year 4 students with good CG and research interests get to do go to CERN. There are plenty of research intern opportunities from IISC, IIT or CMERI and industrial internship opportunities to many depending on their interest. Companies like IOCL, Exide, many automobile manufacturers like Tata, Mahindra, Steel Industries, etc., visit the campus.

The placement senerio is okay okay I will not say it was outstanding or something . Yes it was good for CS and IT branch but for core branch it is like 70% which is good ( talking on the basis of 2018 assumption)

Sorry to say but not Good. There is a mismatch between degree and the role you get to play in the organisation, in may be 90% of the cases.Case can be a student who received an M Tech. degree in Thermal Engineering will get placed in companies like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, IBM where they will get the role of system engineer. And I hope this is best thing that can happen. Worst case is obviously remaining unplaced that too with a post graduate degree.
