General Studies has Current Events, History of India and Indian National Movement, Indian and World Geography, Indian Polity and Governance, Economic and Social Development, Environmental Ecology, Biodiversity and Climate Change and General Science.

CSAT has Comprehension, Interpersonal skills including communication skills, Logical Reasoning and Analytical ability, Decision making and problem solving, General Mental Ability, Basic numeracy and Data Interpretation.

You will need atleast to start preparing ahead of 1- 2 years. If you are preparing at home, you need to keep yourself away from distractions and focus on the goal ahead. If you want to start your preparation for UPSC after 12th, i'll recommend you to go for a bachelor's course related to history and polity. Also you must regularly study current affairs and news. Keep a touch with subjects which you'll be taking up in UPSC like mathematics, geography, civics, english, hindi etc. You can also read as much books possible during this course of time. If you'll be in a habit to study regularly then you will not be overburdened. Proper time management and constant revision along with updated knowledge will help you in your preparation.

The best way to start your UPSC preparation is with a making routine or a timetable.

• First of all make a routine and give at least eight hours for studies in your time table.Keep short breaks of 20 to 25 minutes after every 1.5 to 2 hours between your studies in your routine  and keep rotating subjects as well.
• After completing each chapter , practice questions as well

Read newspaper daily and keep yourself updated with the current affairs

Choose your optional subject wisely , choose the subject you have interest in.

Make short notes after completing each chapter

Revise :- there's no point of preparing for the exam if you couldn't recall anything in the UPSC Examination so you should stress on revision as well.

Solve previous year question papers and mock test papers ;- You should solve these , it will give you idea of types of questions asked and their difficulty level and will help you a lot.

Also work on your communication skills and personality development as it plays an important role in your interview round
