Hello Tony
Entrance exams you have appar for in order to select engineering as your career are JEE main's and JEE advance. After qualifying JEE mains you can appear for JEE advance.
Most of the good Institutes such as IITs , NITs and government colleges conduct their admission process based on score of JEE advance.
However if you do not qualify JEE advance you can till get admission for engineering in private colleges that conduct their admission process based on score of JEE main's.
The syllabus for JEE main's and advance is based on Physics , Chemistry and Mathematics. There is negative marking for this exam so you have to each and every topic very keenly.
Here are some good books that you can refer for preparation of JEE main and advance:
1)For physics :
Concepts of Physics by H. C. Verma
Fundamentals of Physics by Halliday, Resnick and Walker
Problems in General Physics by I. E. Irodov
University Physics by Freedman and Young
Understanding JEE physics series by DC Pandey
Problem In Physics by SS Krotov.
2) For chemistry:
Modern Approach to Chemical Calculations by RC Mukherjee
Organic Chemistry by Solomons and Fryhle
Concise Inorganic by J. D. Lee
Organic Chemistry by Morrison and Boyd
University Chemistry by Freedman and Young
