What is the new pattern of UGC NET Exam?

NTA has changed the UGC NET exam pattern, this is the new pattern:

Paper1- General apptitude 50 questions, each question is of 2 marks.

Paper2- This is for subject selected by student 100 questions, each question is of 2 marks.

Both papers will be conducted in single 3 hours duration.

To make a proper strategy for preparation, its better to analyze the paper pattern of the exam firstly. By analyzing that you will get an idea about the marking weightage of the topics and the question types which will asked in the examination. UGC NET will be conducted by the NTA from18 th December to 22 nd December 2018.

· UGC NET exam has two papers i.e. Paper 1 and Paper 2.

· Paper 1 is common for all subjects which consists 50 MCQs type questions of Reasoning Ability, Comprehension Reading, Mental Ability, and General Awareness etc.

· Paper 2 consists subject based 100 MCQs type questions.

· The time duration of Paper 1 is 1 hour and Paper 2 is 2 hours.

· There is no minus marking on any negative answer in both papers.

The UGC NET paper I will be of general nature intended to assess the teaching/research aptitude of the candidate. Paper II of UGC NET 2018 December session will be of the subject selected by candidates for pursuing Assistant Professorship and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). The UGC NET 2018 exam will be held in two shifts from Tuesday to Saturday

The pattern of the questions and the syllabus from where the UGC NET questions will be set is same as earlier. However, just the mode of the exam, number of papers and the conducting body for UGC NET have changed. From December 2018 onwards, UGC NET would be conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA), whereas earlier, the exam would be conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Secondly, UGC NET would be held in computer-based mode (CBT) from December onwards, whereas earlier this exam would be held in offline mode. Thirdly, from 2018 onwards, UGC NET is being held for only two papers, while earlier, the exam had 3 papers. Apart from these changes, there is no other change in the exam pattern or syllabus of UGC NET.

As per the latest notification, National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct UGC NET 2018 for December session in computer-based mode. UGC NET for December session will be held from December 9 to 23, 2018 in two shifts each day on Saturdays and Sundays. Given below are the details of UGC NET exam pattern:

Time Duration for paper I: 1 hour

Time Duration for paper II: 2 hours

Exam Mode: Computer Based Test

Type of questions: Multiple Choice Questions

Number of questions: paper I - 50, paper II - 100

Marking scheme:

• Correct answer = +2
• There is no negative marking for incorrect answers or unattempted questions

Total marks: Paper I - 100; Paper II - 200

The exam for UGC NET 2018 for December session will be conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA). Apart from the exam conducting authority, there are no such changes made in the exam pattern, syllabus or eligibility criteria of UGC NET 2018 according to the notification released by the authority.
