Your UPSC civil services examination consists of three stages

*prelims exam

*Mains exam.

*Interview

A brief of prelims and mains syllabus is given below:-

PRELIMS :-

Your prelims exam consist of 2 papers: -

-) general studies  1 :- You have History, Indian Polity, Geography, Environment, Current Affairs, Science and technology, etc.

-) general studies II ( csat ) :- You have :-Reasoning, Maths, English, Hindi, etc.

GS Paper II(csat)

Reasoning, Maths, English, Hindi, etc.


-)Comprehension (english and hindi)

-)Analytical ability

-)Decision making and problem-solving

-)Questions on General mental ability

-)numbers and their relations, basic numeracy - orders of magnitude,  (10th level)

-)Data interpretation - graphs, charts, data sufficiency, tables etc.( 10th level)


MAINS :-

It is descriptive /written examination . There are a total of 9 papers  which are listed below:-


-)GS-I  :- You have

*indian heritage and culture

*History and geography of the world and society


-)GS-II :- it includes

* Governance,

*Polity

*Constitution,

*Social Justice and International Relations.


-) GS-III :- it includes

*Technology,

*Economic Development,

*Security and Disaster Management

*Bio-Diversity,

*Environment,


-) GS-IV :- it has

* Ethics

*Integrity

*Aptitude


-) compulsory indian language paper

-) english paper

-) essay paper

-) optional I paper

-) optional II paper

You can choose any  of the language included in the 8th Schedule of Indian Constitution for compulsory indian language paper and also select optional subject of your choice from the available list of subjects.

The compulsory indian language and english are qualifying in nature . You just need to qualify them. The marks obtained by you in these two papers will not be counted towards merit list.
