What should be strategy of the 6th month to clear cat exam 2018 without coaching?
Build up the Basics:
Before actually starting your preparation, go thoroughly through the syllabus and exam pattern once. The syllabus is divided in three sections:
Section 1. Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension
Section 2. Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning
Section 3. Quantitative Ability
Building basics is the most important part of your preparation. Only after understanding the basics you can solve all the problems. For this, you can look at online courses or classroom courses or you can prepare by yourself. I would go with online courses as these save the time of traveling, 24*7 hours available and are affordable. As you are writing CAT 2019, I am assuming that you are in your college and it would not be easy for you to find time for going to class. So you can take help of online courses.
Practice:
After understanding the basic concepts of a topic, get a book from market and start practicing questions from it after going through the concepts for that topic. If you stuck while doing the questions, go through the basics again and then try that question. Try out previous years questions as well. Although previous years questions from CAT 2009 are not available in public domain as the exam went online from this year, you can practice the questions till CAT 2008.
Analysis: Analysis of your performance is as important as practicing questions after going through concepts. After completing 70–80% syllabus, you can start writing mock tests. You’ll know your weak and strong areas by attempting mocks. Once you know your weak areas your next task is to work upon them to convert them into your strong areas. Practice more questions until you excel in those topics. Write at least one mock test every week.
Priya 6 months are more than enough to prepare for CAT or any other exam for any candidate and to score above 99 percentile. conditions applied that you actually devote a proper time in the whole day to it and work on improving yourself rather than lying at your current position.
If instead of coaching you are looking for self-preparations then you need to start your preparations by focusing on mastering the basics of each section. After that only you will be able to overcome the concept of speed with accuracy which is essential to crack any MBA exam.
For quantitative ability, you can start preparing through Arun Sharma book which has a good explanation of the theory and question solutions. Also, it provides a high variety of questions with the different difficulty level.
For Verbal ability, you should start reading lots of good novels written by good authors like Charles Dickens, Agatha Christie, Sydney Sheldon etc. This will help you in improving your English Literature. For improving your vocabulary you should start memorizing 3 words daily with their meaning and correct pronunciation. You should start using these words in your daily life so that you can memorize them in a better way. For Reading Comprehension section you should start reading different passages in different newspaper, magazines etc. and understand the thought process of the author. You need to see what actually he wants to convey through his passage, to who is he targeting and his way of communication. This will help you in solving the maximum questions asked below the passage. You should also see the Arun Sharma book to check out and practice the different types of questions asked in the exam.
Along with this, you should start giving lots of online mock test and analyse solutions of each one of the thoroughly which will help you in overcoming your mistakes and come up with a strategy to definitely improve your marks and percentile. It will also help you to know about your strength and weakness which will help you in attempting easy questions first, that will reduce your chance of committing a silly mistake in an easy question or missing out an easy question. Along with this, you will also get enough time to attempt medium level difficult questions which will overall increase your speed with accuracy which leads to increase your percentile.
