After completing diploma in Mechanical Engineering, candidates can pursue for certificate courses, degree, or they may get into job.
If you want money in your hands after your diploma, you may take job but if you want to have deep knowledge then you must go for higher studies. Salary package after your higher studies is going to be much higher.

Look, it totally depends on your choice . Generally after diploma .. you may not get very good salary package jobs or too may scopes in placement as most of the Private companies basically wants B.Tech Graduate in placements .
But , as you are from core branch , you have good scope in Govt Sectors , you can apply for SSC JE , RRB JE etc. Engineer jobs when Govt will release vacancy .
But , if you want to expand your studies , then B.tech will be good option .
