If your ultimate goal is become IAS then then choosing humanities stream at 10+2 level will be comparatively better choice, also you can pursue graduation in any subject such as Political Science, Geography, Economics, Public Administration, Law to name a few, these will help you a lot in your preparation part and moreover this subjects are also part of optional papers as well, basically there is no such restriction of streams belonging in UPSC Civil Service Exam, if right now you're only in Xth Standard there is still long way to go, however I want to emphasize here as well even if you have any other aspirations such as medical, engineering or alike, still you can appear for the exam and qualify, if we look at the toppers from the past few years, they come from diverse backgrounds, so take your time, think wisely and take a decision accordingly, UPSC Exam is conducted in three stages namely Prelims which has two papers and it's a MCQs based exam, it's numbers aren't added in the final list, both the paper consists of 200 marks, you need to have required cut-offs against your respective category to pass the first paper, the second one is qualifying by nature, you need to score merely 66 marks out of 200. Next stage comes the Mains, which has four GS-Papers. Two Optionals, One Essay, Two Language Paper, overall there are nine papers in Mains, and each paper is of 250 marks, total marks is 1750 marks. The third stage is interview which consists of 275 marks.
If you want to sit for UPSC exam to be an IAS or other administrative officers then you must have to know that you will have to be graduate and then only you will be eligible for exam. So you understand that there is a lot of way to go.
You should get admitted to your 11th standard and at this level just focus on your curriculum. If you are getting admitted in Arts stream then you will have a ample scope to study History , Polity etc if you have chose to have in your +2 course. If you are from science stream , you will not find time to pursue anything else if you can , you can start studying General Studies like History , geography , general science etc. The syllabus for which you will get online. For commerce students too its applicable.
After your 10+2 , you should get admitted to a Bachelor's course and from that time you should start studying about the exam more seriously. If you start early there is a great probability of having your desired service in 1st or 2nd attempt. But at this moment , you should follow in your 10+2 as this base will also help you in UPSC.
