This is a fiction story. Please do not take it very seriously.

One rainy, peaceful day in a town planning division.

UP : Uhm, excuse me, A, can you please design your building a bit further back? We need that minimum setback for the whole concept to work for this district.

A : Eh? But this store looks so cool this way! We intentionally plan it that way so we can be the most visible and exquisite place in the street!

UP: Eh, but please at least consider this part over here? It is adjacent to some underground waterpipes, your foundation is way too close...

A : Uhn, I get what you mean, but do you realize that it is our main anchor tenant here? They need this part to send a message to the passerby...

UP: (realize that it's indeed true and a bit worried) uhn okay let's discuss that with the project later. But please can you please consider about the facade? The scale is beautiful, but why that form and pattern... and magenta?! I thought we agreed that modern and contemporary piece will be on the other district!

A : We changed our mind after further discussion. We love the location, but don't you think people will love the new design more?! (excited, innocent eyes)

UP : It depends on the situation and condition, but basically their concern is a bit different. Urban Planner is more concerned about the overall system while architect is concerned about the aesthetic, ambience, meaning, owner's wishes, and so on. Mostly they complement each other, but sometimes there are some points that they have to tolerate together.

Btw, I'm an architecture graduate, working one year in architecture, two years in urban planning They're both fun in their own way, really!
