Hello,
When a mild steel is subjected to a tensil load, its fracture will conform to form a Cup and cone shape. A cup and cone fracture is a form of failure seen in ductile metals and plastics that are exposed to a uniaxial force. It is basically the partion of a body into two different pieces because of the application of great tensile stress. This method of fracture gets its name from the resulting shapes at the end of the broken pieces after a failure has occurred. Fractured objects will be more susceptible to corrosive environments.
Hope this helps........
