News related to environment.

You should avoid reading these news:

All 'masala news'

Regional news

Entertainment news.

Political news of one person blaming other.

These are all news that you should read while reading any newspaper whether it is' Indian express or  other newspaper'. You should read 'editorial 'page of newspaper . For better result you should make proper notes while reading newspaper.

See if you are an UPSC aspirant, then you must have the habit of reading newspaper so that you are aware about the current affairs which is quite useful in the time of Personality test as well as the Prelims.

Now if you take from a UPSC examination perspective, you must read the news papers of the whole year before the examination. For example, if you are trying to attempt for UPSC 2023 then you should keep in practice about studying the newspaper from the 2022 January to 2022 December at least. So keep reading newspaper as a part of your routine.

Now while reading newspaper the points you should study the kind of news:

  • Creation of policies: For example, nowadays, there are different policies from the GOI such as Swach Bharat, Farmers Bill etc. So in future also, there will be national policies created which you must be aware of.
  • Economy: Every newspaper have a section of Economy where specialist discuss about the economic standards of the world as well as INDIA. So do study this kind of articles.
  • Foreign Relations: There are numerous meeting conducted between the Diplomats with other countries. Keep a note about this meeting and what the propositions are made.

Hi,

I hope you are doing well.

You should start 6 months  before prelims.

For Prelims -

  • Facts which could be asked like satellites, missiles, space projects, GI tags etc
  • Previous year papers should be analysed and by this one could understand which Facts or Current affairs could be asked.

For Mains -

  • Editorials - to know how to write a balanced answer substantiated with facts and examples.
  • Government schemes, International news, Any important judgments , Public debate issues etc
  • Syllabus and Last year papers helps one to select which news is important for Mains.
  • One should skip political news.

Read a newspaper and then read the daily current affairs and editorial given on websites like I-sights etc to know which news one missed. This way one could understand which news one has to read and one could align oneself with UPSC.

Sections of the Daily Newspaper (To be focused)

The Front page of newspaper

  • National News section of newspaper
  • Economy News section of newspaper
  • International News section of newspaper
  • Editorials (important for critical, conceptual and analytical approach)

What to avoid and what to read

Avoid

  • About Political parties
  • Elections and Political issues (which does not have any constitutional and administrative significance)
  • Criticism & Proclamation related to Entertainment

Hope this helps.
