Don't Miss: Best Online MBA courses by Top Universities
Ask any MBA aspirant what he or she wants to do at the end of a 2-year MBA. Chances are that 99.9 percent will say, “I look forward to a job.” Whether one lands a good job or not depends on the track record of the B-school in placements. So, it’s crucial that an MBA aspirant looks at the placement record of the B-school before joining it.
You can get placement records on the websites of MBA colleges. Once you shortlist the colleges where you want to study, compare their placement records. A good way of doing this is by looking at the annual rankings of B-schools. A good rank means that the B-school is good in placements too, besides its standing vis-à-vis a rigorous selection process, good quality of students and faculty, good learning experience, excellent course delivery and exclusive learning and living facilities.
When you look at the placement records, you must know how to differentiate between the highest salary package and median salary. The median salary is the average salary across the latest passing out batch of a B-school. Though some of students opt out of placements for higher studies, to join a family business or go for a start-up and may not be factored in, still, median salary is the best tool to measure placements.
Don’t let the statistics blind you. You should also look at the number and percentage of students placed, distribution of placements industry-wise, job profiles offered, recruitment process, strength of the B-school’s placement cell and its overall standing in the industry.
Here is a list of MBA colleges, whose data on placements is available in the public domain and are also ranked by the NIRF and Careers360, a reputed ranking agency using verifiable data.
