Hello,

First of all, in order to appear for UPSC, you need to be 21 years old and should have completed graduation in any discipline from a recognized university, you can also apply in the final year and there's no specific aggregate required for this. Now, coming to your questions, even through UPSCA is more humanities oriented and people from these backgrounds have an added advantage of being acquainted with the syllabus unlike in case of students belonging to other streams such as science or commerce, but this in no way act as a deterrent for instance if we see previous year trends of toppers people from diverse backgrounds succeed in this exam, including engineering and doctors, as this is no surprises because they have put in equal efforts, hence if you have any other aspirations, you can go ahead with that also, many people also gain work experiences in their respective fields before attempting for UPSC, also  it's good to have a back up plan,
if you fully focused and committed towards only cracking UPSC, you can go for graduation in art disciplines such as political science, public administration,  geography, economics, history etc.

Hello Aspirant

There's no compulsion about the graduation course for appearing in UPSC exam.

Basic eligibility is just you need to be graduated.

If you are a science student, then I'll suggest you to pursue a course regarding science itself like Bachelor's of science in any specialisation of your choice.

And if you aren't interested in science now, then you can go for Bachelor's of arts or you can do BA Hons too in any specialization.

I'll suggest to do BA program or BA Hons in English or economics as it'll be easy for you and side by side you can prepare for UPSC too.

As self study is the most important thing to crack UPSC exam so prepare hard and clear your basics.

Hope this information would be helpful for you.

All the best for your bright future ahead.
