It is because the methyl group has a positive inductive effect; this effect is due to the higher electronegativity of carbon than hydrogen, which attracts the electron from hydrogen and becomes slightly negative and push the electrons towards other groups.

The Inductive Effect is an effect regarding the transmission of unequal sharing of the bonding electron through a chain of atoms in a molecule, leading to a permanent dipole in a bond. Now, you must know that the inductive effect is of two types.
Positive Inductive Effect ( + I effect )
Negative Inductive Effect ( - I effect )
