Why electrons and hydrogens are removed during oxidation?

When a substance looses electrons ,then that process is said to be as oxidation process.When a substance looses its electrons that substance is said to be oxidized.When the Oxidation Number increases then it indicates that there is a loss of electrons in the substance.
