The material used for Arches and suspension bridges are almost similar.Even the defining structures made are almost of equal tensile strength.the shearing effect and strain may differ.Beam bridges use simple, vertical posts to suspend a straight, horizontal bridge.Arch bridges use a curving support structure.Distribution of compression is more pronounced in Arch bridges due to the curved shape.
