Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara University (SDMU) is a state private university that was started in 2018 and is located in Dharwad district of the state of Karnataka. The university is recognised by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and has all level medical and allied health science courses. The student population is diverse and among them, 224 postgraduate students in SDMU 83% are from the state while 16% are from other states of India and 1% from other country. The university hosts 67 courses in 7 study programmes, focused on medical disciplines. The goal of SDMU is to train competent healthcare staff members in the field of quality education and research.
SDMU has a well-endowed central library serving a central role in academic and especially health related purposes. It encompasses a wide range of information resources in the medical sciences and other related fields with a tradition of print based and virtual support. The facilities at the campus comprises an ultramodern facility with an auditorium for event and seminars, separate hostels for boys and girls as well as a canteen facility. Concerning students’ health maintenance and treatment, there is a health centre with an assortment of first aid equipment. The university also provides many opportunities for students to maintain a healthy lifestyle through the sporting equipment, thereby afford a comprehensive developmental place for students.

On the basis of national level entrance examinations, SDMU has laid down its admission policy mostly. For the MBBS programme, it is opened for those who qualify with the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG). The admissions to MD/MS courses in various medical colleges depend on NEET PG. For allied health science courses the University conducts the SDM University Entrance Test after which a written test and an interview is con ducted. It also uses merit for some of the programmes it offers in the university to admit more students. SDMU receives the applications of several courses most in the period of May up to mid July however the dates differ based on the specific course. It is well-acknowledged in producing competent health science professionals with many of its graduating students working in leading health facilities within this country.

SDMU provides several scholarships to support meritorious students and those from economically weaker sections:
Merit-cum-Means (MCM) Scholarships: It is provided to General/OBC/EWS students of engineering and technology programs. The amount provided is Rs. 1000 per month to eligible students.
Institute Merit Prizes: It is provided to the top 7% of students in 4-year B.Tech and 5-year Dual-Degree programs each semester. The prize value is Rs. 2500.
Institute Free Studentship: Available for 10% of students based on income and tuition fee concession.
Scholarships for SC, ST & PwD students: All the SC/ST/PwD students are exempted from tuition fee irrespective of income of parents/guardians.

SDMU, Dharwad is conducting a vast medical and allied health science course. Admission follows a highly structured process meant for the selection of the best brains and the right candidates for joining the institute. The admissions period usually runs in May till the middle of July, although for different programs.
For undergraduate programs, SDMU primarily considers the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG) scores. Postgraduate medical admissions are based on NEET PG scores. Basic Eligibility Criteria Undergraduate programs are based on a successful completion of 10+2 from any recognized board with compulsory subjects of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. For most courses, a minimum aggregate of 50% marks in the qualifying examination is required. For the postgraduate courses, applicants should have completed their bachelor's degree in the relevant discipline from a recognized university with at least 55-60% marks or equivalent CGPA.

Degree-wise Admission Process
MBBS The MBBS in SDMU are taken on merit of NEET UG exams. The programme has an intake capacity of 150 seats and candidates must complete 10+2 with a subject combination like Physics, Chemistry, and Biology and qualify the NEET UG exam as well.
MD/MS: SDMU has a total of 91 seats for various MD and MS programs. The number of seats include 62 for MD and 29 for MS. The admissions are granted based on NEET PG scores. Candidates must possess a MBBS degree from an established university to be eligible. Some of the other specializations offered include Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, General Medicine, General Surgery and Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
B.Sc: The university offers 7 B.Sc programs in allied health sciences with a total intake of 105 seats. The admissions are done based on merit, SDM University Entrance Test, and an interview. Programs include Medical Lab Technology, Medical Imaging Technology, Optometry, Anaesthesia Technology, Emergency and Trauma Care Technology, Operation Theatre Technology, and Medical Records Technology.
Diploma: SDMU conducts diploma courses in different medical technologies. Admission is strictly by merit and any entrance test the university designates. The process for getting admitted to the diploma course may vary.
