Started in the year 1969, the University of Kashmir was part of the University of Jammu and Kashmir. Established in 1948, the University of Jammu and Kashmir was divided into the University of Jammu and the University of Kashmir in 1969. Many scholarships are offered by the University of Kashmir. Kashmir University scholarships include merit scholarships, research scholarships and student aid. Kashmir University merit scholarships are available to students who have taken admission in any of the courses. Two KU merit scholarships are available for the eligible students. University of Kashmir merit scholarships are given to the top two merit holders. One merit scholarship is offered based on merit in the entrance examination while the second merit scholarship is offered based on merit in the first and second-semester examination. Kashmir University scholarships also include research scholarships. Four scholarships are awarded from each department for carrying out research leading to the award of PhD/MPhil degrees. Student aid is also a scholarship awarded by University of Kashmir. KU student aid scheme is given to meritorious students who come from low income families. This University of Kashmir scholarship comes under the ‘Student Aid Scheme’.

Kashmir University admissions are offered to students under various levels provided the minimum criteria are met. The University of Kashmir admissions to the diploma programmes are done based on the previous qualifying examination scores. Admissions to the KU UG programmes and PG programmes are done based on the performance of the entrance test.
For Kashmir University admissions to the M.Tech programmes, valid GATE scores are needed, and for the M.Pharma programme the candidates should have obtained valid scores in the GPAT entrance examinations. Admissions to the Kashmir University Srinagar follow the reservation policy in admitting the students.

The law faculty of the University of Kashmir is the best in the entire valley of Kashmir. It has a robust law society with an incredible staff. The environment is serene as well with magnificent university gardens and parks.
Excellent, the university has WiFi connectivity and overall infrastructure is nice. Some old buildings might need little bit of renovation, otherwise the university has up-to-date infrastructure and facilities.
