Hii..

There are two kinds of entrance exams for overseas MBA programs. The first category is designed to test your aptitude for business management. The second category is meant to test your comfort level with the English language, as that’ll be the mode of communication in the business school as well as the international corporate & business world.

The two primary exams are GMAT and GRE. Traditionally GRE was more popular among MS applicants and GMAT was the de facto standard for MBA courses. However, things are changing and many MBA universities have also started accepting GRE scores.

There are two popular exams that are accepted by international business schools across the world – TOEFL and IELTS. Both of them are similar in the sense that they cover reading, writing, speaking and listening.Unlike the aptitude exams (GMAT, GRE) which are completely automated, for certain English proficiency sections (like speaking) you’d be interacting with a human being.

Hope this helps.

Dear aspirant,

There are four sections, namely, Analytical Writing Assessment, Integrated Reasoning, Quantitative and Verbal. One should start early preparation and regular revision. You should be very good with English language. Analyze previous year papers and study as per chapter weightage. Hello Priyanka,

The best strategies you can follow are:

  • Keep spending regular study hours daily on GMAT preparation rather than cramming for long without any results by day end.
  • Make a time table, follow it. Keep difficult sections in priority if time is less and if the case is opposite then be confident on easy sections of yours.
  • Keep giving mocks and test series in loop. Get over your weaknesses and take a hold on them by your increased number of tests weekly.
  • Try to achieve your daily-weekly targets. Try to score more than your target.
  • Do not panic and give up. You have good number of chances given in a year to appear for GMAT exam.

All the best.

Dear Shikhar,

Nice to know that you want to go abroad for your higher education.

Whether you should give GRE/GMAT or GATE depends upon the program or the country you want to opt to pursue your higher education for.

While GMAT is given by MBA aspirants, Engineering aspirants for GRE. A few universities in Singapore and Germany accept GATE score for their Masters courses.

Hope I have given you some clarity on this.

Best wishes,

Dear Moulik,

CAT and GMAT are highly competitive exams.

Apart from the CAT or GMAT scores, to be eligible for even shortlisting (first shortlisting is done, then interviews then final calls), the colleges take academic performance & work experience very seriously.

One of my friends had 99.78%ile in CAT 2018. Academically he was decent securing 77% in 12th(SCI), still, he was not shortlisted by IIM-A & B.

But, apart from CAT and GMAT you still have other exams like IIFT, SNAP, NMAT, and XAT which gives you a call based solely on respective exams score. You just need to clear the cutoffs and you will be called for interview. From there onwards it will be your responsibility to tackle the panels when you will be asked on low academics.

Just continue with your preparations to get a good score in exams. Good luck!
