A structure is maintained in the admission process, which essentially consists of online registration for entrance examinations followed by selection based on merit. Online registration for most of the programs is done through the official university portal. The selection criteria vary concerning the program; for some courses, newly created entrance exam scores could weigh heavily, while for others, previous academic performance considered with other criteria, such as work experience or GATE scores, could play a vital role.

Application Process

The online application would typically entail the following steps for the Department of Computer Science, University of Kerala:

1. Online Registration: Candidates must register, via the university's official website, for their program of choice.

2. Entrance Examination: Most programs require candidates to sit for a department-specific entrance examination; GATE scores are viewed mostly for the M.Tech programs.

3. Document Submission: Necessary documents will include degree certificates and mark sheets of qualifying examinations, entrance exam score cards (i.e. GATE for M.Tech), work experience certificates in case of applying for admission with sponsorship, and category certificates for reservation quotas.

4. Merit List Preparation: The departmental admission board prepares merit lists according to the criteria set for each program. For instance, for M.Sc. programs, equal weightage is given to entrance examination score and qualifying examination marks.

M.Sc. Computer Science: There are 30 seats for admission through online registration, and candidates are selected based equally on the performance at the entrance examination and the CGPA/marks obtained in the qualifying examination.

M.Sc. Artificial Intelligence: This program has 20 seats available, and the same admission procedure is followed as for M.Sc. in Computer Science. M.Tech Computer Science: There are 18 seats for the program. Admission for the open category is purely based on valid GATE scores. If GATE-qualified candidates are not available, non-GATE candidates are considered based on merit through a departmental entrance test.

M.Phil Computer Science: Admission to this program has 3 seats and carries out a 3-hour entrance examination in Thiruvananthapuram. The entrance examination consists of multiple-choice questions at the postgraduate level on Computer Science and Applications. The final ranking list would be prepared by giving equal weightage to the marks scored in the entrance examination and the qualifying examination.

Ph.D. Computer Science (Full-time and Part-time): No specific details are given regarding admission to the Ph.D. programs, but it is common that these programs undergo some entrance tests, interviews, and evaluation of a research proposal.
