Department of Geography, Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune Facilities Details: Hostel, Campus, Infrastructure, Library, Canteen

The library has a good collection (over 400) of textbooks, encyclopedias, atlases, and reference books in geography and geoinformatics for teaching and research. In addition, a huge collection of books is present in the University library.

Currently, the Computer Laboratory is outfitted with about a dozen Pentiums. Deskjet printers, a scanner, a digitizer, and a plotter are also available. A local area network (LAN) currently provides interconnections between a number of IBM-compatible PCs. Software available on the CL machines includes THE MAPS, SPANS, IDRISI, Photoshop, Corel Draw, and a variety of statistical spreadsheets, word processing, and presentation packages, as well as Web authoring tools.

The college has a departmental-based laboratory facility for the students. Geomorphology Laboratory:- The lab is equipped with all basic facilities for soil, sediment, and water analysis. The facility also includes x-ray based particle size analyzer. Surveying Instruments:-Apart from traditional surveying instruments (theodolites, dumpy levels, and plane tables) the department has acquired advanced survey instruments such as Total Station, Laser Distance Measurer, GPS, and DGPS (Differential Global Positioning System) that allow us to generate high-resolution terrain data. This is one of the few geography departments in the country that has a DGPS.

The college has an auditorium facility for events and seminars.

The college has a good networking for the alumni association.

The college has sports facilities for all students. For the promotion of Game Sports at the College level; the University Board of Sports & Physical Education has decided to award sports scholarship to meritorious sports person; who has achieved medals at the All India Inter-University Tournament Organized by the Association of Indian Universities.

The college has a boys’ hostel facility which provides good hostel accommodation for the students. The hostel facility is granted to the students of the University strictly on the basis of merit. The number of seats for each department depends on the department size.

The college has a girls' hostel facility which provides good hostel accommodation for the students. The hostel facility is granted to the students of the University strictly on the basis of merit. The number of seats for each department depends on the department size.

The college has a health center with a first aid facility for the students.
