Government Arts and Science College for Women, Thoothukudi adopts a sound and transparent admission procedure. The primary criterion for admission is the merit, intrinsic to the candidate, determined from the marks obtained in the qualifying examinations, i.e. 12th standard for undergraduate courses and bachelor's degree for postgraduate courses.

The eligibility criteria for admission vary according to the course opted for. For the undergraduate program, one has to complete the 12th standard from a recognized board. For the postgraduate program, valid admissions require a relevant bachelor's degree from a recognized university.

Degree-wise Admission Process

B.A.: The college has B.A. programs with an intake of 64 students. The merit list is formulated from 12th standard marks. The eligible students must have completed higher secondary education with relevant subjects.

B.Com: With an intake of 64 students, the B.Com program is one of the most sought-after courses. Selection of candidates is based on merit and is given to students who have completed the 12th standard in commerce or related subjects.

B.Sc: With an aspiring intake of 48 students, admission into B.Sc programs is based on a merit list formed by looking into the 12th standard scores in science subjects. Combination of certain subjects varies based on the specialization chosen.

BBA: The Bachelor of Business Administration program has an approved intake of 64 students. Admission is based on the merit list prepared from 12th standard marks, with preference given to students with a background in commerce or related subjects.

For admission into M.Com the college has an approved intake of 30 students. The admissions will be made by the preparation of a merit list from the marks in the qualifying B.Com/equivalent degree.

M.Sc Mathematics: admission to M.Sc Mathematics is based on the merit list arising from marks in B.Sc Mathematics/equivalent degree with an approved intake of 25 students.

MA English-Approved intake of 30 students for the MA English program. Admission is done based on the merit list prepared using the marks obtained at the qualifying BA English/equivalent degree.
