Government Medical College, Kannur (GMC Kannur) is a very esteemed college with several healthcare academic programs for future medical professionals. The college has a strict admission process for choosing the best and most suitable talent from all over India.
The admission process of GMC Kannur usually starts from May-June for the August-September session. The institute favors admissions on the basis of national-level entrance tests, and NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) is the major mode of admission for undergraduate programs and NEET-PG for postgraduate programs.
For MBBS course, the anchor program of GMC Kannur, the minimum is passing 10+2 from a recognized board with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as a compulsory subject. The candidates are required to clear the NEET exam to secure admission.
Application Process
GMC Kannur application process is different for different courses:
For MBBS:
1. Appear for the NEET examination.
2. Get registered in the centralized counselling procedure (the details to be intimated by the concerned authority).
3. Complete the application form and attach the documents.
4. If a seat is given, go to GMC Kannur for document verification and admission procedures.
For MD/MS Courses:
1. Clear NEET-PG examination.
2. Register for centralized counselling procedure for postgraduate medical courses.
3. Complete application form of GMC Kannur (if separate form needs to be filled).
4. Appear for counselling sessions as per schedule.
5. On the last round of selection, finalize the admission process in GMC Kannur.
Degree wise Admission Process
MBBS: It has 100 seats for the MBBS course. Admission is purely based on how good the candidate scores in the NEET examination. National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is compulsory for all those who are looking to become a medical student. Once the candidate clears the NEET, candidates need to face the centralized counseling process for seat allotment.
MD/MS Courses: GMC Kannur conducts several postgraduate courses such as MD in General Medicine, Paediatrics, Dermatology, Anaesthesiology, and MS in General Surgery, ENT, and Orthopedics, etc. The college takes admission in these courses based on the scores of the candidate in NEET-PG. The college has 2-4 seats per specialization with the General Medicine getting a maximum of 4 seats.
DM Cardiology: This program has only 1 admission every year. Admissions are made on the basis of super-specialty entrance examination performance.
Diploma Courses: The college provides several diploma courses like Diploma in Radiological Techniques, Medical Laboratory Technology, and Operation Theatre Technology. These diploma courses have different intake capacities ranging from 6 to 30 seats. Admission to these courses may be different from that for the MBBS and MD/MS courses and is usually merit-based on the performance in the entrance exams conducted at the state level or in the merit lists.
B.Sc Medical Laboratory Technology: 25 seats are for the undergraduate course. The process of admission would presumably be on 10+2 marks and presumably an entrance examination.
Admission documents typically are:
