Government Medical College, Ongole Admission Process

Government Medical College, Ongole (GMC Ongole) is an established institution that provides top-class medical training to future health professionals. Admissions to GMC Ongole are based on a merit framework as envisioned by the national body in charge of medicine. Both undergraduate and graduate studies are undertaken at GMC Ongole with degrees in most medical specialties.

Admission to GMC Ongole usually starts in the months of May-June for the August-September start academic year. Admission to undergraduate programs is based on institution scores in National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG), and admission to postgraduate programs is based on scores of National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Post Graduate (NEET-PG).

For MBBS, the principal program with sanctioned intake of 120 seats, the candidate must have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as mandatory subjects. The admission is purely on the basis of the candidate's ranking in NEET-UG followed by the counseling procedure.

Application Process

Application process in Government Medical College, Ongole differs with various programs:

For MBBS program:

1. Conduct the NEET-UG examination.
2. Apply for the state-level counseling process after the release of NEET-UG results.
3. Complete the online application form for GMC Ongole while undergoing counseling.
4. Provide all documents as asked, such as NEET-UG score card, 10+2 mark sheets, and other certificates as asked for.
5. Pay the fee as applicable.
6. Report for counseling if shortlisted based on NEET-UG rank.
7. If allotted, report to GMC Ongole for document verification and admission process.

For MD/MS courses:

1. Clear the NEET-PG exam.
2. Register for the state-level or All India Quota (AIQ) counseling process, as the case may be.
3. Fill up the online application form for GMC Ongole's postgraduate programs.
4. Upload the required documents, such as NEET-PG score card, MBBS degree certificate, internship completion certificate, etc.
5. Pay the fee as mentioned.
6. Participate in the counseling process according to NEET-PG rank.
7. On the occasion of selection, report to GMC Ongole for document verification and admission formalities.

Degree wise Admission Procedure

MBBS: MBBS course admission in GMC Ongole is made on the basis of NEET-UG ranking by the candidate. The college is permitted for an intake of 120 students for the course. The candidates need to pass 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as mandatory subjects and pass NEET-UG to be eligible for admission.

MD/MS Courses: There are different MD and MS courses provided by GMC Ongole such as General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Pathology, Dermatology, Community Medicine, Anaesthesiology, Paediatrics, ENT, Radio Diagnosis, Ophthalmology, Physiology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Forensic Medicine, Psychiatry, and Respiratory Medicine. These courses admit on the basis of NEET-PG ranks. The intake capacity for each course ranges from 1 to 11 seats.

For MD General Surgery, the college has an approved intake of 11 seats. The students must pass the NEET-PG exam and undergo the following counseling process.

MD Obstetrics and Gynaecology, MD Pathology, and MD Dermatology Venereology and Leprosy all have an approved intake of 9 seats. Admission is offered as per NEET-PG ranks.

MD Community Medicine, MD Anaesthesiology, and MD Paediatrics have 7 seats each, while MS ENT, MD Radio Diagnosis, and MD Ophthalmology have 5 seats each. These courses also get admitted through NEET-PG.

Other MD courses such as Physiology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Forensic Medicine, Psychiatry, and Respiratory Medicine have an intake capacity of 1 to 4 seats. All these courses have the condition that the candidates must qualify in NEET-PG for admission.

Documents needed for admission normally are:

  • NEET-UG/NEET-PG score card
  • 10th and 12th marks sheets and certificates
  • MBBS degree certificate and mark sheets (in case of PG courses)
  • Certificate of internship completion (in case of PG courses)
  • Transfer certificate
  • Migration certificate (wherever applicable)
  • Caste certificate (wherever applicable)
  • Domicile certificate
  • Recent passport-size photographs
  • Any other certificates or documents as prescribed by the college or counseling authority

The academics are the main Focus of this college, since there are only 120 students per batch, the students teacher interaction is highest than any other government college. The college encourages all kinds of research programme and CMEs

If you got 506 marks in neet and belong to genral catagory you have no chance to get all india quota seat in government medical college. But you may get admission in Rajiv Institute of medical science through state quota. This information is based on previous years cutoff and the cutoff marks change every year. It's depends upon number of students that appeared in examination, number of seats available in colleges, difficulties of question paper, reservation catagory, previous years cutoff trends, etc.
