Government Polytechnic Mumbai, established in 1960, holds a prominent position as one of the most venerable and esteemed institutions in both the Mumbai region and the state of Maharashtra. Notably, it attained academic autonomy in 1994. Additionally, the institute has undertaken numerous significant projects, including the Technical Education Quality Improvement Program Phase II, the Canada India Industry Institute Linkage Project, and the World Bank Assisted Project. Furthermore, in 1999, in collaboration with the All India Rubber Industries Association, the institute introduced an innovative self-financed Diploma program in Rubber Technology.

Government Polytechnic Mumbai offers a total of 12 diploma sandwich pattern programs in the various branches of engineering such as Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Leather Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Rubber technology, and many more. The infrastructure of Government Polytechnic Mumbai is quite dismal. The classrooms are overcrowded and poorly maintained, with broken desks and chairs. The labs are outdated and lack essential equipment, making it difficult for students to complete their projects.

The lateral entry BE/BTech program provides admission to the the Diploma in Engineering students directly to the 2nd year of the BE/BTech course. So if your brother, wants to do the course of BE/BTech then he can apply for the Lateral entry program.

Now Government Polytechnic Mumbai is a Government affiliated polytechnic college of Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education, Mumbai. The college don't offers the course of BE/BTech in any stream.

To get admission in government colleges in Mumbai, the eligibility is as follows:

You need to have minimum aggregate of 50% in your 12th class and if you are applying after 10th, you should have minimum 35% in the qualifying examination such as MHT CET or a certification in ITT after 10th also allows you to pursue polytechnic.
