Haldia Institute of Dental Sciences and Research (HIDSAR) is a well-established and recognized dental institution located in Purba Medinipur, West Bengal. The institute offers BDS and MDS courses in various dental specialties. HIDSAR has a merit-based admission policy, which is transparent and in consonance with national standards.
HIDSAR admits BDS undergraduates based on NEET scores. The course has a total of 100 seats: 50% under State Government quota and 50% under management quota. Admission to these seats is done through counseling organized by the State Government of West Bengal, only for NEET-qualified candidates.
Postgraduate programmes at HIDSAR are granted based on NEET MDS. The Institute has seven MDS specializations with a total of 23 seats: Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (5), Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics (5), Prosthodontics and Crown and Bridge (3), Paedodontics and Preventive Dentistry (3), Oral Medicine and Radiology (3), Periodontics and Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics (2).
Application Process
HIDSAR application regarding both BDS and MDS programs is generally following certain steps:
1. Applied and appeared for NEET (for BDS) or NEET MDS (for MDS) examination.
2. Qualified the entrance examination by obtaining a mark above the cut-off score.
3. Registration for the state counseling process by the Government of West Bengal.
4. Filling up of the counseling application form and depositing the requisite fees.
5. Uploading all relevant documents as told by the counseling authority.
6. Choice of HIDSAR and the desired course during counseling.
7. Proceed to HIDSAR for document verification and admission procedures if allotted a seat.
8. Deposit the necessary tuition fee to grant the admission.
Degree wise Admission Process
BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery): Admission to the BDS course is based on NEET scores. The institute has 100 seats for this undergraduate course. Eligibility criteria are successful completion of 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as compulsory subjects. Admission is by counseling conducted by the West Bengal government; only candidates who qualify in NEET are called.
MDS (Master of Dental Surgery): The MDS program consists of seven specialties with the following seats allocation:
1. MDS Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (5 seats)
2. MDS Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics (5 seats)
3. MDS Prosthodontics and Crown and Bridge (3 seats)
4. MDS Paedodontics and Preventive Dentistry (3 seats)
5. MDS Oral Medicine and Radiology (3 seats)
6. MDS Periodontics (2 seats)
7. MDS Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics (2 seats)
Admission to all MDS programs is based on NEET MDS scores. Eligible candidates must possess a BDS degree from a recognized university. The admission process is carried out through counseling conducted by the West Bengal government medical counseling committee.
