KAP Viswanatham Government Medical College, came into existence in 1997 and is situated in Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu, India. It is an affiliated with NMC and recognises as an affiliated college under NMC and provides a number of medical courses. This college has total admission capacity of 753 students and the capacities of teachers as 233 which have made a good student-teacher ratio. In total, responding to the needs of the 7 degree programmes, the institute offers 30 courses in medical education with various specialisations. The sex distribution of the students is more or less equal, 78 boys and 92 girls, so the college is providing equal opportunities for the representatives of both sexes.

KAP Viswanatham Government Medical College provides numerous amenities for development and growth of the students academically and socially. KAP Viswanatham Government Medical College has extensive and diverse curriculum in medical education that is at the undergraduate, post graduate and super specialty level. MBBS programme is the main programme and its capacity is 150 students, other medical based postgraduate like MD, MS and other programmes is mainly for the specialised training in medical field. It also offers super-specialty programmes including the DM in Neurology and Cardiology. In total the institute offers 29 courses, 07 of which are undergraduate programmes in allied health sciences. All courses are regular, so they are intensive and concentrated, providing adequate medical knowledge. The total number of students is 753 and thus clearly indicating how the institute has supported medical courses in the region.

KAP Viswanatham Government Medical College follows the norms of national level Entrance exams for admitting its students. The MBBS programme admission is based on the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) for students pursuing the programme. NEET-PG is used for admitting students into MD and MS programmes and the NEET-SS exam is used to admit the candidates to the DM programmes. These standardised tests are admitted by the college to make sure that adequate and fair selection was made depending on merit.
