Model Polytechnic College, Poonjar was started in the year 2000 and is an affiliated college situated at Kottayam, Kerala. This is a diploma awarding institution approved by the AICTE and follows a diploma program leading to the engineering disciplines. The college is located on a 5.3 acre land and at present it has a total student enrollment capacity of 187 and faculty strength of 10.

Currently, the college has several facilities which enhances the academic and personal development of the students. It is a fundamental facility in the institution which currently possesses around 2000 books and 60 journals in Electronics, Computer Science and allied fields. It provides services in the form of current awareness service up to bibliographic service. Model Polytechnic College, Poonjar has in entirety four diploma courses, and all are at full time. GCC offers four three-year, full-time diploma courses in Model Polytechnic College. It is famous for technical education specifically offering courses in Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Computer Science and Engineering. Every programme is allowed to have a specific intake and in this case, all the courses have their intake fixed at 60 hence the total overall capacity stands at 240 student intake out of any one programme. This college is more inclined on the offering of technical education in certain specialised areas of engineering with special focus towards meeting the dynamically changing needs of the industries.
