Punjab Government Dental College and Hospital, Amritsar (GDC Amritsar) is a renowned dental college. The college provides undergraduate (BDS) as well as postgraduate (MDS) courses in a number of dentistry specializations. GDC Amritsar admission is very competitive and is based on rules regulated by the government of Punjab and the Dental Council of India (DCI). Admission to GDC Amritsar generally starts from the month of February-March when NEET and NEET MDS applications are announced.
For BDS, students should pass 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as core subjects. Selection is made on the basis of the candidate's marks in the NEET exam. For MDS courses, students should have a BDS degree and be eligible in the NEET MDS exam.
Application Process
Application process for Punjab Government Dental College and Hospital, Amritsar is different for BDS and MDS courses:
For BDS Program:
1. Register and submit the NEET application form on the official website (date of application: February 6 to March 6, 2025).
2. Attend the NEET exam on the prescribed date.
3. After the NEET result is declared, the shortlisted candidates need to undertake the state counseling process.
4. The first preference should be GDC Amritsar during counseling.
5. Shortlisted candidates have to report at the college for document verification and admission procedures.
For MDS Courses:
1. Apply on NEET MDS official website (application duration: February 17 to March 9, 2025).
2. Appearing in NEET MDS on examination date.
3. Shortlisted candidates after declaration of results have to attend state-level or all-India counseling, as the case may be.
4. Choose GDC Amritsar and chosen MDS discipline during counseling.
5. On the allotment of a seat, report to college for admission procedures and document verification.
Degree wise Admission Process
BDS: The candidate is admitted to 5-year BDS course in GDC Amritsar on the basis of their NEET score. There are 50 seats available for this course in the college. Candidates must clear NEET and then participate in the counseling process conducted by the state government.
MDS: There are five different specializations in MDS that are provided by GDC Amritsar with a separate admission process:
1. MDS Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry (6 seats)
2. MDS Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics (3 seats)
3. MDS Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (3 seats)
4. MDS Periodontology (3 seats)
5. MDS Prosthodontics and Crown and Bridge (3 seats)
For each MDS application, the applicants must pass the NEET MDS exam. All admissions are strictly as per the guidelines of the state government. They are chosen on the basis of the NEET MDS rank followed by the counseling.

The penalty is called as the custody fee.During the admission procedures, there is an affidavit that has to be signed by you and your parents which states a clause that you have to pay the entire course fees for all the years without which you cannot obtain admission for any other course I.e. if your full course fee sums up to say 8lakhs, then you have to pay that amount before leaving the course to take admission elsewhere. It also depends on the policy adopted by the respective college.
