Tamralipto Government Medical College and Hospital, Purba Medinipur Admission Process

Government Tamralipto Medical College and Hospital, which is a comparatively new public medical institution located at Purba Medinipur, West Bengal. The medical college offers medical education of the finest quality through the undergraduate and postgraduate programs that it has put forward. A very stringent selection process for medical programs has been adopted by TGMCH. The primary entrance mode to TGMCH is NEET, which is currently the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test required for the Undergraduate and postgraduate medical entrance examinations held in India. For MBBS, a candidate needs to pass NEET-UG, while for courses like MD, the student needs to clear NEET-PG.

The admission cycle usually coincides with the schedule of the NEET exam, which is usually held once in a year. Once the NEET results are declared, candidates who have passed the exam are eligible to attend the counseling procedure for seat allocation. TGMCH, being a government college, follows the reservation policies laid down by the West Bengal state government. Eligibility criteria for taking admission in MBBS includes completion of 10+2 with main subjects as Physics, Chemistry, and Biology with the most compulsory being English. The percentage acquired has to be as per the minimum scale set by National Medical Commission. For PG, the candidate needs to have an MBBS degree from a recognized institute completed with the required period of internship.

Application Process

Tamralipto Government Medical College and Hospital application process involves the following steps:

1. NEET Registration: There needs to be a prior registration, and he should appear for the NEET exam conducted by the NTA either UG or PG as required.

2. NEET Result: Subsequent to taking the NEET exam, the candidate has to wait until the NEET results are declared. Only those candidates qualify for NEET are eligible to apply for admissions to TGMCH.

3. Counseling Registration: Those who are eligible are registered for counseling by the state. For West Bengal, it generally takes place under the West Bengal Directorate of Medical Education.

4. Document Verification: Candidates need to present all the documents that are needed for verification. These include:

  • NEET score card
  • Class 10 and 12 mark sheets and certificates
  • Domicile certificate (if necessary).
  • Category certificates which includes proofs of valid identity, latest passport size photographs for the respective reserved categories.

5. Choice filling: The counselors help the candidates to choose a college and course.

6. Seat allotment: When ranks are given in NEET, based on respective categories and options filled by students, they get seats.

7. Payment of Fee: In case any seat is assigned at TGMCH, a candidate must make the requisite fee within the specified timeframe to finalize admission.

8. Joining at the College: In case the candidates clear the eligibility criterion, they need to join the TGMCH on the appointed date along with all the original documents to finish all admission processes.

9. Medical Examination: There may also be a mandatory medical examination to find out whether or not the candidate will be suitable enough for the medical course.

During this application process, applicants are generally advised to periodically check the TGMCH's official website, that of the West Bengal Directorate of Medical Education and the Medical Counselling Committee regarding any updates in the admission process.

The admission process for the college is very competitive, mainly because of limited seats. Thus, it requires one to be thoroughly prepared for NEET and also keep up with good academic performance in order to secure a seat at TGMCH.

Degree wise Admission Procedure

MBBS: The TGMCH has sanctioned 100 intake under the MBBS course. Admission to the MBBS course is by way of NEET-UG ranks followed by the centralized counseling process conducted by the state authority. The course is for 5.5 years with one year of compulsory rotating internship.

MD Obstetrics and Gynaecology: This postgraduate course has 4 seats. The candidate must qualify NEET-PG and attend counseling for admission. The course is of three years and gives specialized training in obstetrics and gynecology.

MD Paediatrics: TGMCH has 2 seats in this postgraduate course. Admission is through NEET-PG, followed by counseling. The course is of three years and includes complete pediatric care and child health.

MD Ophthalmology: The total number of seats in this postgraduate specialty program is 2. Students will be shortlisted on NEET-PG scores and as a result of counseling. The three-year course gives tremendous exposure to ophthalmological procedures and eye care.
