University College of Science, Tumakuru Facilities Details: Hostel, Campus, Infrastructure, Library, Canteen

The Library and Information Center of University College of Science was established along with the College, it started functioning from the year 1940. The Library is located in the center of the College premises for easy access. The library of the college is provided with a carpet area of 2905 sq. ft. and is rendering quality services. The library has adopted an open-access approach to promoting the use of information resources. The collection of the Library is rich and diverse, especially in terms of breadth and depth of coverage in the areas of Life sciences, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Biological Sciences, and Computer Science and is growing at a very fast pace to match the changing needs of students and staff of the college. It has a collection of over 50,255 which include Books, Reference Books, CD’s & DVD’S, Back volumes, Magazines, Project reports, and other reading materials. Library subscribes 35 periodicals in the various fields of Science and Technology. The library has a good collection of competitive books kept separately “IAS Corner” to cater the needs of students for preparing competitive exams like JEE, JGATE, CSIR NET, etc and motivating them to take up civil services, Library in-house activities and services are fully automated with the use of e-Lib, Integrated Library Management Software. The library has access to more than 6000+ e-journals (including current issues with 5-10 years back files) and 31,35,000 + e-books through a program entitled “National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content (N-LIST)” by INFLIBNET.

Games and sports are an integral part of education. Participation in games at the end of the day's hard work will bring back our lost energy, bestow upon us relaxation and banish our boredom. The college provides sufficient time and facilities for sports and gymnasium. It fosters a spirit of team-building and bonding between the trainees besides enabling them to learn the importance of the work and relaxation balance in life and career. The college encourages and trains students to participate in state and national tournaments. The Institute has playgrounds and well-maintained athletic track to encourage the students to take part in different games such as Cricket, Football, Basketball, Volleyball, and Badminton. Indoor games like Chess, Carrom, table tennis, etc. The Institute has also a Gymnasium Hall. The Annual Sports Function is held every year to test the physical fitness, stamina and athletic skills of the students. All the students are enthusiastically participating in it.

Whether it is breakfast, lunch, a quick snack or a cup of coffee, the canteen is where you need to head. Conveniently located within the college campus. The canteen is easily accessible to staff and visitors as well.

The college has separate hostel facilities for boys having different capacities according to the strength of the students. The college offers clean, comfortable and safe hostels for all the students on the campus. Hostel wardens have been assigned to each hostel for the security and comfort of the students. The facilities provided and the atmosphere at the hostels ensures that the students have the calm and peace of mind, which is essential for them to grow academically. It is obvious that all the hostelites enjoy the health and hygienic supplies from time to time with all modern amenities, maintained neat and well. It has become simpler and cashier to bag good reputations with available facilities making the college unique itself.

The UG girls' and boys’ hostel is managed by Tumkur University is a paying girls and boys hostel. At present 165 UG students belonging to both the university college of science and the university college of arts are residing in the girl’s hostel and 110 boys are residing in the boy’s hostel. As the majority of the students are from rural and poor backgrounds at most care is being taken to offer quality food at reasonable and affordable rates. The students are provided with basic facilities like RO purified drinking water, solar water heater, and uninterrupted power supply, etc.

The college has a very spacious and well-equipped auditorium is equipped with an inbuilt audio-visual system with a good seating system to hold up to 500 people. Interclass and intercollegiate cultural and literary competitions, seminars, workshops, and conferences are conducted in the auditorium.

Good health is important to the successful completion of a college career. Health Services center in College is committed to the promotion of wellness through health education, prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of illness. All students and employees are eligible to utilize the services in the Health Center. Our goal is to advocate, inform and empower students in making sound health care decisions and lifestyle changes.
