DRDO recruits engineers through the following :

1)Through Gate/NET

2)Through apprenticeship

3)Through their own exam sometimes

4)Through direct interview for contract basis.

Every year RAC of DRDO recruits Scientists in DRDS mostly at entry level (Scientist 'B'). However, depending on the requirements in specialized areas of research & development, limited number of scientists are also recruited in higher grades (Scientist 'C' to Scientist 'H').

Qualifying GATE is mandatory eligibility for Recruitment in DRDO. Other than that, candidates also have to appear for a written descriptive test followed by a personal interview as a part of DRDO recruitment through the GATE 2021 procedure. Candidates will be allowed to work for DRDO only after qualifying for all the stages.

The elgibility criteria goes like this:

Essential Qualifications

1. At least first class Master's Degree in Science Subjects, Mathematics or Psychology or First Class Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Technology or Metallurgy from a recognised University or equivalent.
2. Experience of at least 3 years for Scientist 'C', 7 years for Scientist 'D', 10 years for Scientist 'E', 13 years for Scientist 'F' and 15 years for Scientist 'G'/Scientist 'H' in research/ design/ development or production in the required area.

Desirable qualifications

1. Knowledge of Chinese, French, German, Japanese or Russian
2. Doctorate degree in Science, Mathematics or Psychology or Master's degree in Engineering or Technology or Metallurgy in the subject concerned (applicable for Scientist 'C' & above).

Age Limit

• For Scientist 'B': not exceeding 28 years
• For Scientist 'C': not exceeding 35 years
• For Scientist 'D' and Scientist 'E': not exceeding 45 years
• For Scientist 'F' and 'G': not exceeding 50 years.
• For Scientist 'H': not exceeding 54 years.

So,As you are now pursuing your B.tech in Metallurgical Engineering,it is recommended that you start preparing for the GATE and you must have the knowledge of the above mentioned languages.

After the completion of your degree,you can apply through the DRDO official website along with your GATE score.The short-listed applicants on the basis of their GATE score and other criteria have to appear for a written test and a personal interview (PI).

Hi Priyanshu, the choice filling modification are available in 3&4th rounds as well. The general starting rank is from 2-3k and the cut off rank varies from 5-8k each year. So there is a chance you may be allotted the college. Coming to the placement records, the UIET holds a rating of 4.3/5 as per placement. The placement opportunities are great. Top recruiters are TCS, Infosys,HCL, PSUs like Gail, NTPC, DRDO,SAIL etc. The metallurgical engineering faculty is excellent as they include professors from IIT Kanpur. Overall it's a great college. As per 2019 56000 was the closing rank of the course so there is a chance of you bagging a seat in further rounds. Though the placements in UIET are not great but you can pursue post graduation from top institutions like IISC, IITs via gate and get a chance to work with Tata Steel, jindal stainless, vedanta, GE aviation etc which are top recruiters in this field. Also via Gate you can get an entry in to reputed PSUs like IOCL, SAIL, DRDO, BARC, BIS, NALCO etc. Also Tata Steel annually organizes its Assistant Engineer Trainee Exam, for recruiting the people asAssistant Managers/Assistant Engineers. Arcelor Mittal-Nippon Steel India and Tata Metaliks often conduct regular Off campus drives for Metallurgical Engineers.

Congratulations for the rank that you get in UPSEE 2020. According to last some year cut offs yes you have very good chances of getting admission into UIET Kanpur in metallurgical engineering but the chances of getting it in first round are very because the cut offs for last round are very much near to the your rank so that you have possibilities  of getting seat for metallurgical engineering is in last rounds. You didn't mention your category, so I consider you belong to the open category. According to the previous year's data of closing ranks in various branches in the University Institute of Engineering and Technology CSJMU, Kanpur ; it is predicted that you have good chances to get seat for B.Tech Metallurgical and Materials engineering with your rank. The last year's closing rank for this branch was 82,909 for the open category . So, you can most probably secure a seat by the second counseling round in the worst case.

In the second year, change of branch may be allowed to a limited number of students
on the basis of their academic performance in the first year subject to the departmental
strength constraints. No department shall exceed the maximum sanctioned strength or
fall below 60% of the sanctioned strength in a particular branch of that year as a result
of branch changes. Branch change is a privilege and not a right and will be considered for meritorious students subject to the constraints mentioned above. Requests for change of branch should be made to the Chairperson, APEC, at the end of the secondsemester. The students seeking branch change must not have any backlog and musthave a CPI equal to or greater than 8.00 at the end of the first two semesters.
