Rich reserves of various metals including Iron, Bauxite, Gold, and Silver in Odisha, Jharkhand, and Madhya Pradesh, make these areas hotspots for mining activities. We can incorporate these metals into our daily lives using Foundry and Forge Technology. Foundry is a factory that produces different shapes of metallic appliances (metal casting). Metals are first converted into a molten state and then poured into the mold that has negative 3D impressions of the desired shape. After pouring the molten metal into the mold, it is left undisturbed till it solidifies.
After solidification, we can make appliances of desired shapes and sizes. On the other hand, Forge is a manufacturing process of giving desired shapes to the heated metal by using compressive forces like beating with a hammer.
The eligibility criterion to apply for Foundry and Forge Technology is similar to the other Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses. However, candidates must follow the basic requirements.
For Undergraduate Foundry and Forge Technology Courses
1. The students are eligible to apply if they have passed 12th standard with the aggregate of 50 per cent in Physics, Chemistry and Maths (PCM).
2. Candidates must qualify either JEE Main or JEE Advanced with requisite percentile.
3. Students who have already qualified JEE main or JEE Advanced can directly apply for counselling through Joint Seat Allotment Authority (JoSAA).
For Postgraduate Foundry and Forge Technology courses
1. Candidates should have scored the required cut off in the GATE exam.
2. Students must score at least 60 per cent aggregate in the bachelor’s degree with relevant discipline.
Foundry and Forge technology Entrance exams
Joint Entrance Exam Main (JEE Main) -This is a national level online entrance examination that is conducted to get admissions in B.Tech courses. The overall cut off is decided, and accordingly, students get admitted to NITs only for the Foundry and forge technology courses. JEE Main exam is conducted twice a year in the month of January and April.
Joint Entrance Exam Advanced (JEE Advanced) - This exam is conducted by one of the Indian Institute of Technologies (IITs) itself. It is an online exam that is conducted in the month of May. Students who qualify with the required percentile in JEE Main are eligible to appear in this exam. Candidates who qualify the JEE Advanced cut off can apply in various IITs to get admissions in Foundry and Forge technology courses.
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) - It is an online exam that is conducted in the month of February. This exam leads to admission in M.Tech courses in various institutions. It checks the aptitude of the students and their knowledge at the graduation level in the requisite discipline. After the exam, cut off is released by the institutions and accordingly a merit list is prepared.
