To make certain drugs, people are required. These people are known as pharmaceutical biotechnologists. Pharmaceutical Biotechnology (PB) deals with the development of drugs, medicines, and vaccines to solve the ailments of the human race. It is the study of biopharmaceuticals, from the conception stage to the delivery stage.
The Pharmaceutical Biotechnology course is a mixture of molecular biology and biotechnology. It is utilized to improve agricultural production, industrial processes, and animal products, among other uses. It involves the study of microorganisms, living organisms, pharmaceutics, pharmacogenomics, and other pharmaceutical drugs.
Pharmaceutical Biotechnology course helps one find vaccines and cures for previously undiscovered diseases. As health and nutrition are two of the most important values for all human beings, this course is very important and relevant. During and after the pandemic, more such biotechnologists will be required to nullify the chances of another such pandemic taking place.
For B.Pharm:
Should have passed 10+2 level from a recognized educational board.
Physics, Chemistry, and Biology or Mathematics are mandatory subjects. English is also compulsory.
Must secure a minimum of 50% in 12th standard.
Must have a B.Pharm degree or other similar bachelor’s degree.
A 50% aggregate score in B.Pharm is mandatory.
Entrance Exams for Pharmaceutical Biotechnology Course
There is no one common entrance exam for pharmaceutical biotechnology. Every college has its entrance procedure and examination. These exams usually test one’s general aptitude and basic knowledge about science subjects and pharmaceutics.
Sometimes, a personal interview may follow the entrance examination. After all the relevant procedures are completed, the merit list of all colleges is made available, and depending on the performance, one will get into a suitable college. This process is followed for B.Pharm and M.Pharm students.
Some of the most popular colleges and their entrance tests include the Manipal Entrance Test (Manipal University), Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test (BITS campuses), NIPER Joint Entrance Examination (National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research), and Karnataka Common Entrance Test (all pharmaceutical courses in Karnataka).
The scope of all medical and pharmaceutical courses is very vast, especially in India, where medical students are regarded very highly. Pharmaceutical biotechnology is a new and developing course, both in India and abroad, and its students have a huge demand in the job market.
The pharmaceutics and biotechnology industry is set to grow with leaps and bounds due to proactive government policies. To make up for this growth, a good amount of manpower is required, thus creating an array of job opportunities for PB students.
As long as ailments and viruses exist, pharmaceutical biotechnology will exist and continue to grow. Whether it is within the country or outside, viruses will continue to thrive, thus creating a constant demand for new vaccines, drugs, and medicines.
With good technical knowledge and skills, as well as a relevant specialization, Pharmaceutical Biotechnology students can score well-paying jobs and help the society and the world.
