hello there!

chemical engineering or biotechnology.

I think firstly it comes to your choice. What you choose, choose wisely.

Biotechnology is a part (branch) of chemical engineering in which you come across

  1. Crops and seeds
  2. Fertilizers
  3. Food industry
  4. Vaccines
  5. Medication and many more

So particularly you work in this fields. Mostly as RnD specialist if you in any industry.

If you are really good at those biological terms and good with memory this field is yours for taking. You get mostly white collar jobs.

I would also recommend B.Sc( Biotech) and then M.Sc(Biotech) and Phd.(Biotech).

Starting salary may not be available( mostly stipend and all you might get)

Now coming to Chemical engineering it's one of the oldest and successful field and has huge scope after it because chemical engineers are required in all industries.

It's not easy to be a chemical engineer but it's highly appreciated job of a chemical engineer.

You should familiar with chemical reaction, thermodynamics and mechanical operations which are highly used in Chemical industry. You certainly will get good salary but the question comes is blue collar job is mostly you get for in initial years.

You can also setup your own industry if you are a chemical engineer.

I would end by saying that both fields have their own pros and cons but it merely depends on your choice what you take.

goodluck!

Hey!

In terms of ease of availability of job, it must be noted that getting job for freshers in biotechnology field is really difficult as there is not much scope. However, students can go for further studies or do any research. Whereas chemical engineering is the successful branch including Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical engineering, mathematics in it. Many companies like isro, gail, drdo, realince, shell, etc offer jobs for chemical engineers.

Biotechnology doesn't include mathematics but chemical engineering includes mathematics which is not much difficult.

Thank you

Hello Aspirant,

As per my knowledge, they both have certain topics in similar.

If you are a Biotech graduate, you would study in terms of subject streams, it goes as follows

  1. Genetics.
  2. Cell Biology.
  3. Immunology.
  4. Chemical engineering stream (this Include, Thermodynamics, Heat and Mass transfer, process calculations).
  5. Pharmacology.
  6. Enyzme technology and even more.

You won't be studying Mathematics in Biotechnology much except for the chemical engineering stream(For those who don't like Mathematics). You will be entirely working on Laboratory results than theory.

Jobs :- In India there is quite a less opportunity for fresher's in biotechnology, where as, who really are interested in Research can actually opt this course, because there's still a lot to be discovered and invented.

You can join pharmaceutical company, Life sciences department else there is vast opportunity for the Higher studies both in INDIA and ABROAD.

NOW,

Taking chemical engineering into consideration, I personally felt Chemical engineering very interesting than Biotech.

This branch is like mixture of Mechanical, Electronics, Biotechnology, petroleum engineering, Mathematics (differentiation and integration entirety). It is very vast and very challenging.

There are subjects

  1. Thermodynamics
  2. Heat and Mass transfer.
  3. Fluid mechanics.
  4. Chemical technology.
  5. Mechanical operation.
  6. Instrumentation and process control.
  7. Transport phenomena.

Higher studies have a importance here as well.

Job:- job in India for fresher's with good pay, still challenging. You can get into PSU through gate. The PSU's are

  1. IOCL
  2. DRDO
  3. BARC
  4. ISRO
  5. GAIL

These companies pay very good package and one can settle only if they work hard.

Conclusion-

So, according to me one can get a job and finds it very challenging in Chemical engineering than a Biotechnology.

This may help.

Happy learning!
