48 MonthsIndian Institute of Management Nagpur is starting the Doctoral Programme from the academic year 2021-22. The objective of the programme is to seek, develop, and foster contextually relevant and socially conscious academicians and researchers seeking thought leadership in management fields.
The program duration will be four years. The initial two years will be coursework leading to a comprehensive assessment before participants undertake the thesis work for the remaining duration under the supervision of an advisory committee.
Course structure brief
The first year: The participants will undertake (i) Post-graduate courses common to all participants, (ii) Additional post-graduate courses recommended by the area (including related area courses, if any), and (iii) Doctoral level courses common to all participants.
The second year: The participants will undertake (i) Doctoral level courses common to all participants and (ii) Doctoral level courses specified by the areas. During the dissertation period, areas will strive to develop contemporary research aptitude among candidates by way of active interactions with reputed global scholars.
Candidates will be awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) on successful completion of the programme.
Areas of Specializations
At present, IIM Nagpur is offering Ph.D. in the following areas of specialization:
Financial Support
Stipend: Participants will get the following monthly stipend during the duration of the program:
Start-up Grant: A one-time startup grant (in year 1) of INR 1,00,000 will be provided to meet expenses on purchasing hardware, software, etc.
Contingency Allowance: A contingency allowance of INR 25,000 per year (for second to fourth years) to cover research expenses, expenses on books, photocopying, etc., will also be available to all the Ph.D. students.
Conference Funding: The institute will fund the conference expenses on a reimbursement basis for attending one international and three domestic conferences prescribed by their area.
An amount of up to INR 1,50,000 and INR 20,000 per conference paper will be provided to meet all expenses related to attending international and national conferences, respectively.
A candidate should qualify for any one of the following educational qualifications*:
Master’s degree (two years following the 10+2+3 or 10+2+4 system of education) with a minimum of 60% or equivalent marks
Post-graduate diploma in management (two years following the 10+2+3 or 10+2+4 system of education) of at least one year in duration passed with at least 60% or equivalent marks
Professional qualification – CA/ICWA/CS with (with at least 50 percent aggregate marks) along with a Bachelor’s degree exam passed with minimum 60% or equivalent marks
A five-year integrated Master’s degree (five years following the 10+2 system of education) program in any discipline, with at least 60 percent aggregate or equivalent marks
A 4 year / 8 semesters Bachelor’s degree (10+2+4 system of education) with a minimum of 85% or equivalent marks
The Master’s degree or equivalent qualification/Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification should be:
(a) from any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions
established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under section 3 of UGC Act,1956 or,
(b) recognized by the Ministry of Education, Government of India or,
(c) possess an equivalent qualification from an institution approved by AICTE.
Screening examination
Scores of CAT 2019 and 2020 will be considered valid for application to the Ph.D. Programme in 2021. GMAT Score will be considered valid for a period of two years from the date of taking the exam.
PGP (Full-time) alumni of any IIM who have graduated in or after 2018 will get waiver from appearing for CAT/GMAT provided they have graduated with at least 60% or equivalent marks.
The admission process at IIM Nagpur for the batch of 2021-25 will be carried out over various stages. The details are mentioned in the following sections:
Stage 1: Candidates are invited to fill a detailed application form within a stipulated date. Candidates who apply for the Ph.D. admissions process at IIM Nagpur will be first screened for the requirements and eligibility, as mentioned in section 2.1.
Stage 2: Only those candidates who complete the application form and meet the eligibility criteria will be considered to prepare the shortlist for PIs. This shortlist will be released and informed to all the applicants by email.
Stage 3: Candidates who are shortlisted at the end of Stage 2 will move to Stage 3. All the shortlisted candidates in Stage 2 will have to attend two personal interviews (PI), the first with an area led panel and another with the programme led panel. In case a candidate has applied for two areas of specialization, he/she has to attend to interview for each area and then a programme led panel interview. The candidates will be evaluated based on several factors, including:
Stage 4: Candidates who appear for the PI will be considered for this stage. Admission offers will be sent to the successful candidates.
