Hi,
It would have been better if you could have provided your category for the prediction. According to the reports for general category it can be predicted that the marks of 71 is not quite good enough for getting into one of the IISER's. For getting a seat you need to score atleast 90+ to get a seat in one of the IISERs. The top IISERs like IISER Kolkata, IISER Pune require a higher marks like 120+. So 71 marks is not good enough to fetch you a seat in the IISER. Hoping for the best. Thank you. For more information refer to

I hope that this will help.
Firstly you do not have specifications like mathematical statistics in IISER's. You would have to choose a major in all the IISER's (except Pune I guess). If you take mathematics as your major and there are courses being offered in statistics (depending on various faculties in various IISER's such type of courses may or may not be present) you can take such courses and further your knowledge.
If you're even more interested you can do your MS thesis on such a topic.
Here I would go with it branch at nitk as it is one of the top colleges in india renowned for btech also it is amongst the top nits of india so you will have a great exposure as well on the other hand iiser kolkata is also a renowned institute ut in the field of science so ultimately it boils down to you that what you want to do whether you want to do research or do a btech and become a computer/it engineer hence choice is upto you.
Hello Aspirant,
The astrophysics department at IISc is very small and consists of only six faculty and 10–15 PhD students. However, IIA is a major astrophysics institute of India, with several world class facilities (see - Indian Institute of Astrophysics). In IISc all faculty work in theoretical aspects (mostly high energy astrophysics) of astronomy, so you don’t have much choice. Also one important drawback at IISc at present is that, two of the most senior faculty are going to retire in a year or so and they don’t take any student. Other faculties are also very much occupied. This is the reason that IISc is part of JAAP program where you will have opportunity to work with faculties of IIA, RRI, ISRO and IISc at your interest.
Now coming to IIA, there are about 50–60 faculty so obviously a very large group. They work on several topics in astronomy (but mostly stellar or solar physics). Most of the faculty work in observational astronomy as they have their own observatories. IIA is also a very active member of ASTROSAT, therefore you are always in priority of data acquisition (IISc will not be able to get data that easily!). Since they are a big group, they take more people for PhD hence you have higher probability getting there. Only drawback is that, the faculties are restricted to take a certain number of students (and this limit is actually very small) so sometimes even though student and professor have a mutual understanding, student cannot join that faculty. Otherwise, it is one of the best institutes to join to pursue a good career in astronomy.
Hope you find it helpful
let me know in the comment box if you are having any further doubts
thanks
Good Luck!
Dear aspirant,
Congratulations you can get bs ms in new iiser . But you have to wait till last round and you can even participate in special rounds. There is quite update that this year the vacant seatsmay be alloted to IIT JEE channel instead of SCB channel.
The last year cutoff for the general category was 3248 rank in scb channel. So hope you get deserved college and best wishes for the journey ahead.
