Sidho Kanho Birsha University, Purulia Admission 2025: Dates, Registration, Fees, Eligibility

Sidho-Kanho-Birsha University (SKBU) is a state university established in Purulia district of West Bengal. It tends to offer a rather diverse spectrum of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in virtually all disciplines. The aspirants from all sections of the society can take advantage of the merit-based admission mechanism specially crafted by SKBU. In general, the admission procedure begins in the month of June and continues right after the declaration of results for Higher Secondary (+2) examinations. Admission normally starts from June-July for our applications into the courses that will commence during August-September for that year. 

Specific dates for various programmes will vary. Therefore aspirants would have to keep checking the official SKBU website for details on closing dates as far as applications, entrance exams (where applicable), and result announcements are concerned. Eligibility criterion for an undergraduate program at SKBU mandates that the candidate should have achieved a 10+2 education through a recognized board. It mostly follows a merit selection criterion as it believes in admitting students on the basis of the marks obtained in qualifying examinations

Application Process

Generally, the method of admission here is through online applications of Sidho Kanho Birsa University. A stepwise guide to applying is:

1. Go to the official site of SKBU and visit the admission section.

2. Here, under the desired program (UG, PG or PhD), read the eligibility criteria and instructions for that program.

3. Fill the online application form with accurate personal and education details.

4. Attach scanned copies of required documents such as:

• Passport-sized photograph
• Signature
• Mark-sheets of qualifying examinations (10th, 12th, bachelor's as applicable)
• Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC/PWD) if applicable
• Domicile certificate (West Bengal residents)

5. Pay a charge for applying online through the provided payment gateway.

6. Fill-in application form: keep its printout for references.

SKBU utilizes merit as a criterion to apply for undergraduate courses. These merit lists are based on the scores received in a qualifying examination (10+2) as well as any parameters established from time to time for a specific program.

Certain departments/programs may also have other selection procedures which could include, but are not limited to, an entrance test or interview for students applying to postgraduate programs. Generally, eligible candidates are invited for a document verification and counseling session.

Degree-wise Admission Procedure

B.Tech: Enrol into B.Tech not directly offered by SKBU.

M.Tech: The university has not instituted any particular M.Tech courses.

MBA: There are MBA programs at SKBU available through the Department of Business Administration and on admission on merit of the Bachelor's degree of the candidates and an interview round.

B.Des: Information is given on B.Des by SKBU.

M.Des: The Board does not give any M.Des.

M.Sc.: SKBU offers a range of M.Sc. in disciplines like Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, and Environmental Science. For almost all qualifications, admissions are based on B.Sc. performance in a particular subject. Furthermore, entrance tests and/or interviews may be held for selected M.Sc programs.

Ph.D.: SKBU offers Ph.D. programs in different subjects. Admission to PhD is on the basis of the performance of the applicant in the written test and/or interview. Any candidate having done his Master's degree in that area can apply for it. A few departments might also consider UGC-NET/CSIR score for exemption from written test.
