No,  it is not mandatory. So jain gives profile based calls and score based calls. So if you have a very good profile,  you ll get a call from so jain even before cat result is announced. Rest,  you can give any of CAT,XAT,  Gmat exams. Not all.

Hello Ateeq. Yes, you can give cat and gmat exams, in order to get into top B-schools. You have a higher chance of getting into top B-schools, since the top B-schools prefer the students from more diverse background. Generally all the b-school throughout the globe prefer students from different background, because the major chunk of applicants are from engineering and management background, which leaves their program a 'bit dimensionless'. So, these b-schools require applicants from almost every academic background.Hence applicants from BAMS background can give CAT or GMAT and get into top B-schools of the globe quite easily.

Hello Abhijit Vijay Shinde,
The GMAT is a computer adaptive test that assesses an applicants potential by testing various parameters to determine their expertise in various areas by means of four sections in the new exam pattern:

Analytical Writing Assessment

Integrated Reasoning Section

Quantitative Section

Verbal Section

Candidates are given three and a half hours to complete these four sections. The total score out of 800 is only for the verbal and quantitative sections. The remaining two sections receive their independent scores.

Section 1: Analytical Writing Assessment

This section has a 30-minute essay which includes:

Analysis of an Argument

Here youre expected to-

Examine and analyse the given argument

Figure out the reasoning behind an argument and write a critique of the same

Work out a methodical approach to present your answer

Consider various viewpoints

Support your answer with appropriate examples and explanation

Be sure of the right grammar usage while presenting your answer

The scores for this section are on a six point scale. Your essay is given two independent ratings and then an average is considered.

One of these scores is done by an automated essay-scoring engine. If the difference between both the ratings is more than one point, a third rating would be provided by an expert reader which would then be the final score.

Section 2: Integrated Reasoning (IR)

This new section of the GMAT was introduced in June 2012. It has 12 questions with thirty minutes to answer this section. This section has replaced one of the AWA essays. The score is on a scale of 1 to 8.

This section tests how well you can make use of your analytical skills to solve a complicated problem. You are provided with data in various forms.

Your skill depends on being able to handle the data, pick out the information that is relevant and then choose the right answer. In each question, you are expected to provide multiple answers from the choice provided. This section has four different question types:

Table Analysis: In this, you are provided with loads of information in a table format. The question asked expects you to pick answers from yes/no, true/false with multiple statements to answer under each question.

Graphics Interpretation: In this type, you are given a graph or a graphical image. Youre expected to interpret the graph and complete the statements given by choosing one of the options from the pull-down menu.

Multi-Source Reasoning: Here you have to gather information by clicking on the various tabs (2-3) provided. The data available may be presented either as text or in the form of charts, tables. The answers may be in the yes/no, true/false format or as multiple choice options.

Two-Part Analysis: You have a question and multiple choices provided. The answers in a table form have the two components occupying the first two columns and the answer options in the third column. Of all the options provided, you have to choose only one option under each component to complete one answer.

Section 3: Quantitative Section

This is the third section of the GMAT. You have to attempt 31 questions with 62 minutes to complete this section. The questions are designed to put your math skills to test. They revolve around basic arithmetic, algebra and geometry. This section has multiple choice questions that fall in the following two ccategories

Data sufficiency questions

This section is intended to test your ability to assess the given data systematically. Youd be given a question followed by two statements and five answer choices. These answer choices always remain the same.

So its a good idea to memorise them all including their order. Then use your logical and analytical skills combined with quantitative knowledge to check what data is required or sufficient to find the answer. Here its more about checking the data sufficiency as the name suggests rather than finding the answer.

Problem solving questions

This part is designed to test your quantitative skills and your ability to solve a problem using the various mathematical concepts.

The number of problem solving questions would be greater in number. Each of the above two category of questions would appear in random order throughout the entire section.

Section 4: GMAT Verbal Section

In this last section of the GMAT, youll have 65 minutes to answer 36 multiple choice questions that fall in one of the following category:

Reading Comprehension, Critical Reasoning, and Sentence Correction.

A. Reading Comprehension

In this section you are given a passage (approx. 350 words) on a topic and multiple choice questions based on the same.

You need not have an in-depth knowledge of the topic. Rather you should be able to

Understand the underlying concept of the passage

Grasp the key idea and the relationship between the various entities involved.

B. Critical Reasoning

There are around 14 critical reasoning questions in the GMAT verbal section. The passage is in the form of an argument with five answer choices. You should be able to

Sort out the useful information from the irrelevant matter

Identify the key points that influence, strengthen or weaken the given argument

You need to carefully go through the argument to logically analyse it, read through the options carefully to be able to decide which option would be the best possible answer.

C. Sentence Correction

You are given a sentence having an underlined portion and five answer choices.

If the sentence sounds correct as it is, option 1 is the answer

You have to be familiar with the rules of English grammar and choose the answer which seems the best in compliance with standard written English.

Once done, read it over again to check if the sentence construction looks correct and if the original meaning of the statement has been retained.

Hope it helps!!!

Hey,

GMAC (Graduate Management Admission Council) is the owner of GMAT exam and  directs the GMAT fee waiver.  You need to fill the GMAT fee waiver form. The applicant might request and get the approval for upto 10 waivers within a period of 12 months. These vouchers waive the GMAT exam fee for the applicant. However, GMAC does not provide fee waivers directly to students, the school act as an mediator to district fee waivers and hence you need to work directly with the school. GMAC provides the fee waivers code to the applicant via a secured email. These fee waivers are usually offered to economically disadvantaged students, but however, it's upto each individual school to decide who gets a fee waiver.

The schools offer fee waivers firstly, to their currently enrolled students or alumni. Secondly, they offer to the applicants to their various business programmes. If you have any further related query, do visit the pathfinder below;

 https://www.gmac.com/frequently-asked-questions/fee-waivers

I don't want to discourage you, but it seems like you are thinking of getting into business school to get over your studies once and for all, and let me tell you this is not a good idea. Average work experience of 3 to 5 years is the requirement of the top international programmes.

Nevertheless, you can get yourself enrolled into a Master of Science in Management programme, many top schools such as HEC Paris & University of St. Gallan ( as Master of Arts in Strategic and International Management ) offer these degrees for students with business undergraduate background, which are similar to MBA but do not really require any Job Experience.

As these programmes are pre-experience, more stronger in conceptual study than (1 year) MBA offered by same school.

I hope I've resolved your query, in case of any further doubt, feel free to revert back.

All the very best, have a bright future ahead!!

Hello Avinash,

PGDMSM is relatively new course in market and we cannot comment how it will shape in future. If you have NL dalmia call then I would suggest you to prepare for NL dalmia GD PI round well and convert your call.If you think you can study harder and ace cat'19 exam then give it a shot but again you should also consider other side of coin i.e. getting into iim is not easy especially old IIM you need to have strong past academics, achievements and work experience.Other well renowed colleges such MDI,FMS,IIT Bombay have cutoffs around 98.5-99.6 percentile(changes every year). So carefully analysis pros and cons and decide it accordingly. For getting into foreign you need to have good gmat score, solid profile to get into top ranked college if you are okay with mid level foreign mba college then decent gmat score is sufficient to get into. But,again you will invest 30-35 lacs in foreign mba(including hostel mess and other expenditure)then it is better to get into NL dalmia because even NL dalmia offers international placements if you are ready to work harder. So choose wisely.

Hope I cleared your doubt. All the best for future endeavour!!!

Hello Vinash,

First of all, are you asking about 2018 CAT? If yes, maximum of the colleges have closed their registration forms and you won't be to apply for most of them. Still, if you are interested to know about it, use the Pathfinder at Careers 360 website. Follow the link: https://bschool.careers360.com/pathfinder/cat

Now coming to the reality part, you won't be getting any "good" college with your percentile. There are some good B-schools in India that are well known for their finance domain. And they do not accept any marks less than 95 percentile. So, even if you are getting a college that would be below average for sure.

Let's come to the GMAT part. You need to score above 710 to get very good colleges. Irrespective of whichever country you want to study, you need to appear for GMAT. Having said that, you can also score above 630 and you would find good colleges. You need to apply to these institutes after getting your GMAT score. You will have the option of choosing up to 5 colleges immediately after you finish your exam and your scores will be sent to them. You need not pay for it because that would be covered in your GMAT registration fees. Apart from that, you have to apply to other colleges for which you need to pay.

Needless to say, it will be a costly affair. If you are ready to invest in it, please go forward. If not, kindly prepare for CAT 2019 and along with that do appear for XAT, IIFT, TISSNET, SNAP, NMAT, CMAT and MAHCET. The colleges accepting the scores of these exams are equally good. Please don't bother yourself with MAT again as most of the good colleges do not accept MAT score.

Hope this helps. All the best!

Hello Megha,

GMAT, CAT and all other management exams are not tough but  tricky examinations to crack. The better hold you have on English, mathematics and basic management situational skills the better are your chances are at cracking these examinations. You can start you preparations from any time between 6 months to 30 days before the examination, however you need to evaluate on where do you stand in this time phrame and how much preparation you need by taking a mock test before actually starting with your preparation. Ideally people start their preparation three-four months prior to the main examination so that it gives them a chance to work on anything and everything that is lacking.

How does taking a mock test before beginning with the actual preparation help?

  • Starting your preparation by taking a diagnostic test will help you gain clarity about the amount of preparation you need, it will give you a brief idea about your strengths and weaknesses and it will most importantly give you an idea about the areas you primarily need to focus at.
  • It tells exactly which sections you are lacking in and what sorts of questions are causing you a trouble. This will let you reach your goal easier as you will start working on your mistakes.

Tips on what to do after you have given your mock test:

  • Set a goal based on the universities you have short listed, this will help you gain clarity that how much you need to secure than what you have secured and you will have to then work accordingly.
  • Take mistakes you have made very seriously, keep checking the mistakes and correcting them so that you do not make them again. This will reduce half of your work. Treat your mistakes as opportunities and research about all of them.
  • Keep taking 2-3 practice tests every week in order to see how much have you progressed and how far are you from the main goal you have set. Maintain a section wise progress record to know about which section needs attention.
  • Time all your practice tests, take breaks between sections if necessary. Timing will give you an idea about how much time you are spending on each section and how much time you should ideally spend on it in order to meet your set goal.
  • Read as much as possible, whether it be reading the newspaper for half an hour everyday or it be reading a novel you like, but just read in order to get a grasp of the language and reading will also enhance your vocabulary.
  • Do mathematics and verbal everyday for at least 2 hours so that you get a good grip of it by the time you have to give your main examination.
  • Select your GMAT examination dates by keeping in mind that you might have to retake the examination if you do not meet your set standards and thus give yourself enough time to do so.

All the best!

I hope this answers your queries!

Do revert back in case of any further doubts.

Hi Shruti,

First of all, congratulations on your GMAT score of 720. I suppose your question pertains to joining the CAP round using your GMAT score as you haven't filled up the MAH CET form. You have to fill up a form of DTE CAP 2019 for that. The registration will begin in May 2019. You have to fill up the online application form, after which you will be called for their GDPI round and further process.

Your GMAT score will be used for the allotment of seats in Provisional allotment of CAP round I, II and III.

Kindly note - If you are aiming for the top B-schools in Maharashtra then you might be asked to register for their CAP round around 15 May. So please keep a check on that.

Let me know if you need further clarifications.

Hi Shruti,

There are many colleges in Maharashtra accepting GMAT scores. I will list down the top institutes first.

JBIMS, SPJIMR, IIT-B, KJ Somaiya. Other institutes accept GMAT scores as well. IMT Nagpur, Welingkar, Flame University, ITM Business school, IBS Business School, MITSOT, MITSOB, Durgadevi Saraf Institute of Management, Pune Institute of Business Management, Lala Lajpat Rai Institute of Management, IES, Nevile Wadia Institute of Management Studies, Universal Business School and many more.

Coming to your 2nd query  - No, Pumba does not accept GMAT score. You can enroll for their MBA/MMS program only through MAH MBA/MMS CET or CAT or CMAT scores.

Hi Shruti,

You have already asked this question once on this platform and I have answered it. Writing the same answer again.
