Government Medical College and ESIC Hospital, Coimbatore (GMCESIC) is a new but developing institution that provides good quality medical education in Tamil Nadu. The college has a merit-based admission system that is compliant with national standards of medical education in India. GMCESIC is recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and offers two specialized medical courses: Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) for undergraduate students and Master of Medicine (MD) in Emergency Medicine for postgraduate students.

The admission to GMCESIC is mainly on the basis of national-level entrance tests. For MBBS, admissions are made through the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG). The candidates need to pass this test with the minimum marks required to qualify for admission. Likewise, for the MD in Emergency Medicine course, admissions are made on the basis of performance in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Post Graduate (NEET-PG).
