Government Medical College, Nizamabad Admission Process

The Government Medical College, Nizamabad (GMC Nizamabad) is one of those reputed government medical institutions in Telangana, India.

The admissions cycle for GMC Nizamabad usually kicks off somewhere around May-June for the academic year starting August-September. The selection procedure based on merit is undertaken through national-level entrance exams, namely, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for undergrads and NEET-PG for postgraduates.

For undergraduate admissions, one must have passed +2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as subjects from a recognized board. An aggregate of 50% marks in the qualifying examination is mostly required; for postgraduates, the requirement would be a completed MBBS degree held from a recognized university.

Application Process

The application process at GMC Nizamabad mainly varies with regard to the programs:

For the MBBS program:

1. Qualify NEET UG examination.
2. Apply for the state-level counselling process (details may be checked on the official state medical education website).
3. If candidates meet the cutoff, they must participate in the counselling process.
4. Candidates offered a seat at GMC Nizamabad would be required to report to the college for document verification and payment of fees.

For the MD/MS program:

1. Qualify NEET PG.
2. Apply for state-level or All India Quota counselling as the case may be.
3. Candidates participate in the counselling process according to their NEET PG rank.
4. Candidates allotted to GMC Nizamabad shall report to the college for admission and document verification.

Degree wise Admission Process

MBBS: Admission to the MBBS program at GMC Nizamabad is solely on the basis of merit scores obtained in the NEET UG exam. GMC offers 120 seats to students pursuing the MBBS course. Candidates must qualify NEET UG to be eligible for admission. Colleges will be allocated based on counseling through NEET UG rank.

MD/MS: The College offers different postgraduate courses, MD and MS being one. Admissions into those courses are based on the student's performance in the NEET PG test. The college has many specializations available with varying intake capacities: these include MD General Medicine (10 seats), MS General Surgery (8 seats), MD Anaesthesiology (6 seats), and MS Obstetrics and Gynaecology (6 seats).

For all postgraduate courses, the applicant is mandated to possess an MBBS degree and qualify for NEET PG. Admission into MD/MS courses would be on the basis of counseling through the NEET PG rank. Other MD/MS courses on offer are Orthopaedics, Anatomy, Pharmacology, Chest Medicine, ENT, Ophthalmology, Pathology, Paediatrics, Microbiology, Forensic Medicine, Psychiatry, Physiology, and Biochemistry.

Documents needed for admission include:

  • NEET UG/PG scorecard
  • 10th and 12th standard mark sheets and certificates
  • MBBS degree certificate and mark sheets (for PG admissions)
  • Valid ID proof
  • Domicile certificate (if applicable)
  • Caste certificate (if applicable)
  • Recent passport size photographs
  • Any other relevant certificates, as stated by the institute or counseling authority
