Government Medical College, Thrissur Admission Process

Government Medical College, Thrissur (GMC Thrissur) is a prestigious institution, offering various undergraduate and postgraduate medical courses. The admission procedure is typically rigorous and testing, ensuring that seats are ultimately allotted to those candidates, who are most deserving, from all over the country.

The admission structure for GMC Thrissur is thus governed on a national level by the national entrance examination. Admission for the undergraduate courses like MBBS is conducted on the basis of the NEET-UG. Postgraduate programs, namely MD and MS admission, are conducted by NEET-PG. The super specialty courses DM and M.Ch are filled through the NEET-SS.

Degree-wise Admission Process

MBBS: The college has 175 MBBS seats available. Admission is depending on the NEET-UG exam based on allotting rank of an individual applicant. For that, all applicants must have passed 12th grade with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

MD/MS: GMC Thrissur offers MD and MS programs with varying intakes. The popular ones mostly are in:

  1. MD Anaesthesiology (22 seats)
  2. MS General Surgery (17 seats)
  3. MD General Medicine (14 seats)
  4. MS Orthopaedics (10 seats)
  5. MD Pathology (10 seats)

NEET-PG is the examination for admission to all MD/MS courses. Candidates must also be MBBS-qualified.

M.Ch: The college offers M.Ch in Neurosurgery with 3 seats. Admission is based on the NEET-SS examination. Candidates who are MD/MS qualified can apply.

DM: GMC Thrissur offers a DM in Cardiology with 2 seats. NEET-SS will be the basis for admission, and candidates who are MD/MS qualified may apply.

Eligibility for B.Sc. in Cardiac Technology

  • 10+2 education completed in the Science stream from a recognized educational Board.
  • Physics, Chemistry, English and Biology as the main subjects of study at the 10+2 level.
  • A minimum aggregate score of 50% (45% for SC/ST/OBC candidates) at the 10+2 level.

B.Sc. in Cardiac Technology: Admission Process

Most institutes offering the course admit students based on their performance in a relevant entrance test, followed by a round of Personal Interview. Some institutes conduct their own entrance tests for offering admission. Admission process generally varies across colleges.
